Microsoft: IGN has a lot to prove with PC Gaming.

"As IGN continues to post BS, the failure of gaming journalism continues to haunt us all."

Maxvorstadt: A console is a different thing than a PC.

JMich: What's their difference?
Console lock down the hardware and software for many years while PC keep evolving?

How many mods you have for console? Cheats?

A console is still a PC, but a very lock down PC and some people don't like that "Lock Downess"
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition for Win10 available on the Windows Store........
I would like to play with it, but....... And looks like from the ratings it is a very bad port.

Wolfehunter: PC for PC and console for console no merging nonsense. I believe MS will fail in the end. I won't support nor buy any of that nonsense Windows store crap. But I'm sure whatever agenda MS has to unifying both platforms there will be new fanboys who will like it. I sure do miss the old days. Things where simpler then. ;)

updated,

http://www.pcper.com/reviews/General-Tech/PC-Gaming-Shakeup-Ashes-Singularity-DX12-and-Microsoft-Store

Why I won't support it. MS will hit PC system hard with its downgrade concept, taking PC gamers control away from there own pc games.
If I am reading it correctly, Direct X 12 may not be better then older version of Direct X..
It is lauded to be better because it access the GPUs directly and cut off the OS as the middle man
Now it have a new middle man that is Windows App Store compositing engine

Console Peasants and The Glorious PC Master Race.

"As Microsoft moves to unify Xbox and PC, the failure of Games for Windows Live still haunts Phil Spencer."

The thing is Phil is that we PC gamers DO NOT Xbox and PC to be unifyed.

We want PC to be its own thing, and leave Xbox to be its own thing.

Why are you trying to merge the 2? And how does it figuartively increases Profit sales to you?
What does "merge PC gaming and Xbox" even mean? Turn a PC into a console? Stop making PCs and force all PC gamers to buy Xboxes at gunpoint? Stop making Xboxes and force all Xbox users to use Windows for gaming? I don't comprehend the concept of "merge PC and Xbox gaming" under any definition/explanation.

JMich: What's their difference?
You have to pay for multiplayer on one of them. :P

JMich: What's their difference?

rtcvb32: One is better for the consumer.
True. One requires no internet connection, is much more portable, games come on discs and you can give said discs to others when you are done. Other one almost always needs an internet connection, you can either have an underpowered one or a portable one, games come on downloads that are tied to an account.

Gnostic: Console lock down the hardware and software for many years while PC keep evolving?
True. It's not as if people keep saying that a 13 year old OS is still the best one to use.

avatar
Gnostic: How many mods you have for console? Cheats?
Game dependent, both of them.

So if something makes the consoles more like a PC, how is that a bad thing?

When was the last time MS published a good game? Age of Mythology?

I am not knowledgeable enough in the 13 year old OS to know the statement is true or not.
But I thought the definition of software lock down means you cannot tamper with the software easily hence mods, cheat, rewriting some game files, game saves, access item database cannot happen easily.

I am not sure what the age of the OS has to do with lock down.

Of course it is good to consoles owner if the consoles become more like a PC.
But it is bad the other way round when the PC (OS) make the PC behaves more like a console and take on console disadvantages to trade in the advantages of few consoles exclusive.

In short it may be good to consoles owner and bad to PC owners, People have phobia on how well Microsoft will handle it since Games for Window Life.

LiquidOxygen80: In my opinion, the fewer exclusives, the better. If there's one thing I absolutely despise, it's the so-called console wars and/or platform wars. It's a corporation. Corporations are in it to make money. They do not care about you beyond your capacity to buy their shit. People who genuinely feel some sense of loyalty to a corporate entity also genuinely deserve to get shat on as often as they do for blind consumerism.
This.

Although, It would be interesting (and somewhat horrifying I guess) to read the conclusion of a psychology study done a platform war.

PookaMustard: And why are they against the 'merging' of the two? Gamers these days...

zer00o: consoles have too many restrictions, more than steam, i want none of that
Ah Steam. The paragon of restrictions. I'd buy a console and start over again rather than dealing with such a broken service.

After all, modding is dead, hacking is dead, plugins are dead, all of these are dead.

And lest not forget this article is made by IGN. Quite a quality seal here.
avatar
PookaMustard: What are'you complaining about again?

It's like we never complained about being charged for various ports of the games yesterday, now we're complaining about having access to the same game on two different devices (inferior or not, though that part was sort of bullcrap) at the same time.
I just don't trust MS not to put something in I won't like or hurts privacy. Windows 10 is already the most spyhappy OS they made, and I don't trust them to do anything good.

I never complained, and I never cared. MS themselves isolated PC and I'm not gonna be bribed out of the the years of development they didn't do on better APIs with getting some Xbone exclusives free for windows.

really? a console?
i don't know what experiences you have had with steam but i prefer it over any console.
backwards compatibility with different versions of windows.
i can play the same same on different machines, windows, mac and Linux.
while steam is no longer the best thing out there for pc gamers given it is a form of drm, there is no way consoles arent worse.
in the end, you are allowed to like what you like just like everyone else, i doubt you could present an argument to convince others though

I'd much rather be able to play used games, ditch some of my games, give some to a friend without any shenanigans such as a poor family sharing system, and overall playing without an account OVER backwards compatibility and what not. Which is why I prefer consoles over Steam.
