Steam never did anything positive whatsoever for games. There was never a time they were going to vanish. That's one of the ways that some people alter history to try rationalizing Steam's position.

Nothing, really? It did a credible enough job to herald the age of digital game distribution on a big scale, so eventually it convinced the big players in the games industry to follow suit.

As a Linux user, I disagree. Steam has done a lot to promote / facilitate gaming on Linux.

Count me as a GOG-only gamer. Anything that requires DRM, client, phoning home online, et cetera may as well not exist to me. That's why I'm here. At this point, I literally would not be gaming without GOG :)

Yeah i think saying Steam has done nothing for PC gaming is taking it a bit far, but it certainly is not the beacon of light it (and it's fans) likes to portray itself as, it has a dark controlling influence.

Steam has just contaminated my computer with some sort of chat interface and I can't get shut of it.
Soon as I can get all of my favorite games from GoG, steam i uninstalled history.

I want DRM-free games, so GOG ticks that box of course, but I'm also more than happy with the overall service. On rare occasions when I've had technical issues with a game, the support responses have always been swift and positive. Likewise, the only time I ever requested a refund, correspondence was very good and everything was resolved in 15 minutes.

Obviously, I'm conscious that different users here will have varied experiences, but I always believe it's a door that swings in both directions. I've always been friendly and polite when I've asked anything of GOG, they've always reciprocated in kind.

Sure, there are games that have piqued my interest that aren't on GOG, but I'm at that happy place with my gaming that as the OP title says...

For me the cutoff is DRM-free rather than a specific storefront. Eg, if Age of Empires 1-2 Collectors Edition is DRM-Free on DVD-ROM and Bioshock 1 is DRM-Free on Humble but neither are on GOG after years of waiting, then I'll get those. It would be nice to have everything on GOG all neatly listed on the Account page, but that's highly unrealistic due to rights issues for many games.

This is how I felt too, and I will never forgive Scheme or gamers for making it so DRM-free physical gaming essentially disappeared. I do appreciate some of the games offered on Humble (yes Bioshock 1 is a huge one!). That said, I do not like how Humble's business seems to be mainly selling Scheme keys. I bought a game there that was said to be DRM-free, only to discover that the DRM-free download was only a demo and the way to get the full game was at that time only via the Scheme version. To Humble's credit, they refunded my money. But unless a big game that I consider a must-have (like Bioshock 1) comes around somewhere else DRM-free, I personally don't see much reason to shop anywhere but on here. For those more into indie gaming maybe the other small DRM-free stores are intriguing, I don't know. I want to keep supporting GOG in hopes that big, deep gameplay experiences continue to show up DRM-free here.
