So I have some older hardware I would like to repurpose and this laptop have no idea.
It's a Acer 3620 with 14" screen and old Celeron M 1.6Ghz.

All of the stuff it can be used, a raspberry do it better (except perhaps a big portable music/movie player) so am kinda lost here.

Anyone have a brilliant and creative idea to re-use it?
For fun, install only DOS on it and use it as a console for playing physical copies of old DOS games.
This works.

That guy is doing it wrong. If he placed the nut more towards the hinge, it will require less force...

I actually LOLd

Thanks for the idea. Dosbox is so much easier :D
That will require to burn the games on actual CD's but maybe fun to play old street fighter or mortal kombat in it...

If you write you can repurpose it as a fulltime "type-writer" with a light Linux distribution.

You can also mount it on the wall and connect it to some kick-ass speakers and use it as a "standing music station".

You can use it for backups either with wi-fi or as an external hard drive with a screen.

Multimedia server for the raspeberry.

Donate it.

Sell it for coins.
I made mine run Linux, and my mom uses it to browse Pinterest and YouTube videos. Maybe someone from your family could use it like that?
Just use it as a Linux trainer.

Internet browsing, streaming services, messengers/networking, diary, electronic books reading, DOS and emulation software for old school playing.

Oh but can you tweak autoexec.bat and config.sys files in DOSBOX? ;p All the fun to be had. Before you can have any fun.

I recently threw out an old pc that a friend gave me years ago. But,I did kick it over and found that it still had a ''fat'' system on it and I thought this could be worth big bucks to a collector and then thought ''stuff it'' out you go and recently got rid of all except my old pc's.People just like giving me old pc's and I keep hoarding them until I decide to tinker or toss them. The happy couple were tossed not that long ago but like the OP, I thought I could do something with them.

How much RAM?

I have an older IBM ThinkPad T41 laptop which is basically one of my retro gaming PCs, I've installed both Windows XP and Windows 98SE on it, for some old Windows games that have problems on newer Windows or PCs. I've e.g. played Heavy Gear on it, worked great, and I recall Heavy Gear 2 also ran fine on it (without the Z-buffer problems that the game has on newer graphics cards). Oh and I think Mechwarrior 3 works fine on it too, without the physics problems.

If it has at least 1GB of RAM (or more), I might also install Linux Mint XFCE on it, and use it for some specific stuff like downloading all my GOG games installers with gogrepo.py into an external USB hard drive.
Use linux and use it as a small server
