tinyE: The NES had a lot of these; the original Metal Gear and Mission Impossible come to mind and didn't Zelda have a few,or am I crazy?

And do the Mimics in Torchlight count?

Does Divine Divinity telling you to, YES THE GAME ACTUALLY TELLS YOU, kill one of Otho's pigs count?

And that bitch in the caverns of Terraria. She's hard as hell to kill and gives you virtually nothing in return.
Do I sense the real reason why you ragequit Terraria? :D

XD Actually by the time I found her I had gotten a hang of the game and it has since become one of my favorites.

initialpresence: I wasn't. The wretched degeneracy that is rife through out the West is incalculably destructive. People have the right to live how they wish. But the constant pushing and glorification needs to stop. And this has nothing to do with the morality of times gone by. Turning degenerates into some sort of "heroes" can only result in damaging societies. But as someone once said, let all the creatures that lurk in the mud hatch out. If you can find a safe and comfy place, it's a fascinating time to be in our world, gruesome, but fascinating ...
And this has what to do with "trap" games? :P

If you have a problem with the LGBT community fine, but I've read the OP's post over several times but I see nothing in it that even remotely refers to or references it.

dtgreene: I could easily see a pure adventure game qualifying ("open door" -> "The door falls away from the wall, crushing you. Game Over").
That's Sierra in a nutshell.

again - where in the OP are any suggestions of what you are saying? Please point them out to me.

Give him a second; he's Photoshopping one in.

misteryo: I would hate to play it, but watching it is pretty funny
Well, I think part of the point of such games is to be funny. I think that trap games work best if they focus on humor and perhaps try to get some puzzles in to get past the traps instead of trying to make the game extremely difficult.

Yeah, I'm only teasing. The siren is kinda bullshit. It's a mini boss battle than can be sprung on you when you're not expecting it and she doesn't even drop anything worth a pewp.

Breja: I think the worst trap I've heard of (as I have nto played any NES games myself) was in the Dirty Harry game. That one is really just bizarre and mean.
That appers to be a deliberate softlock, which is actually worse than killing the player, as it forces a reset of the entire game. Incidentally, both the trap platformers I mentioned have a key that you can press to die instantly, preventing softlocks of this sort. (This is especially handy on Syoban Action's "Mystery Dungeon" mode, where the extreme randomness sometimes creates unsolvable situations.)

IMO, in a good trap game, a trap shouldn't set you back too far. Maybe have sections between check points be just long enough for it to be difficult to keep every trap in short term memory (at least later in the game), but not any longer than that.

initialpresence: Ditto. OP already downvoted and marked as spam.

amok: You do realise that Timpuu was joking? why the bloody heck did you downrate the OP? Can you point to what exactly in the OP was offensive, inappropriate or spam?

This question goes to all who downrate the OP here - exactly why have you done so?

anyway - I tried to search for a game I had on Desura, but I can't find it again. It was styled as a typical Mario game, but everything was a trap of some sort or another, and you had to figure out how to get across on trial and error. I seem to recall your main character was a faerie?
Maybe you might be thinking of Eryi's Action? That game is clearly inspired by Syoban Action (complete with a lives counter that can go negative). I have played through the demo, up to the start of the second level (the demo has two levels), and I was laughing for quite a while after that last death.

Eryi's Action (Demo) spoiler ahead:

The death was on the world map, of all places. Trying to enter level 2 triggers an animation that seems innocent at first, but if you don't move out of the way, something that comes out of the level will kill you.

Awww come on. I don't mind that now there are rainbow colors here everywhere due to the Pride march that is apparently going to be soon. I am not going to join but I don't really care, good for them. I don't see them as a threat to my existence or anything. If I happen to be downtown when they march, maybe I stop to watch. Who knows, maybe they throw free candy or condoms or something to the viewers.

(And I personally know one transgender person myself, a friend of my wife who used to be a man, got themselves "fixed" like a half a year ago or so.)

EDIT: In fact, if anything, I'd wish all other men were gay. As long as most women would remain heteros, then there would be more for me to choose from! If I was single, that is. Gay men are not my competitors, other hetero men (and lesbians) are!
