Saiko.Systems: It seems that every game i pick up now, never lasts me very long, and i always find myself feeling the same way: i want more. more weapon options, more clothing/armor options, more skills/abilities to use or level up, more complexity, more depth.

preferably something open world, and somewhat new, and i tend to like survival/aloneness/apocalypse-ness

played subnautica, liked it, one day in and i've experienced / found everything it has. items, enemies, etcetera.

played neo scavenger, absolutely loved it. that one lasted a week or so, but even with mods (mmod, neo scav extended, overhaul, and specifically that one that merges all three of those plus others) but still found myself wishing there was more to play with. a lot more.

stranded deep, the forest, 7 days to die, dying light, STALKER (CoP, with misery for a time, then CoC for a time, then CoM for a time), all the same. always wanting more options.

where is the selection of something like jagged alliance 2 with iov/cosmod, with tons of options and everything having its use, in a modern day survival/apocalypse-themed game?

fallout new vegas fills the role excellently (with the help of a bunch of mods to increase difficulty and reduce loot amounts. mods to add new weapon options to play with + mods that reduce ammo drops enough to give me a good reason to carry around spares in case i run out of one kind of ammo, etcetera) ...... but, i've played FNV sooooooo much, the act of finding and installing all the mods again feels so tedius and excludes it because i know it will be less fun due to my knowing about everything. overplayed, too much experience with it.

after being an absolute fallout fan from 1 and 2, "back in the day", i very much disliked 3, and pretty much refuse to play 4 after things ive heard about it in regards to being a "fallout" game ..... im a major fan of morrowind, and hate the dumbing down the series has taken since then (google "differences between morrowind, oblivion, and skyrim" and click the uesp wiki link, and read it a bit. this statement will become clear quickly)

so.... any suggestions? (doesnt need to be something available on GOG)
Kingdoms of Amalur
The Witcher 3
Those are a good place to start.

If you liked NEO then graphics aren't a big deal for you, obviously. Tales of Maj'Eyal? As far as options go, you've got some freakishly uncountable number of them, especially once you win a game once and unlock the custom adventurer class. Classes play very differently. so playing an Archmage or Paradox Mage or Archer or Rogue or Barbarian or Bulwark will all feel quite differently from each other. Even the races provide enough difference that within a single class there are distinct playstyles. And there is certainly no shortage of difficulty; I've never heard anyone - even using mods - say Madness is too easy.

One of the Wizardry games? 7 or 8, perhaps?

If you like the idea of Diablo2 but you've overplayed it, then give Grim Dawn a shot. The multiclass system, and the added complexity of the Devotions, should give you at least several dozen hours of good times as you figure out the various combinations.

Saiko.Systems: ...
Have you tried "Don't Starve"?
I'm going to suggest Terraria too, a very addictive game. UnderRail, if you want a somewhat Fallout experience. Did you play Fallout Tactics? You might also like Factorio and RimWorld (not on GOG, yet).

Regarding The Witcher games, I wouldn't skip any of them. This thread may give you some more info on that.
Alright, im back. little later than expected due to a few wake-ups and a store errand, but now im back and have read the unread suggestions.

without spending the excess time quoting, and responding in order: the description of x3 by both individuals undoubtedly piques my interest, so wil definately be adding that near the top of my list.

secret world mmo i'll take a look into but its doubtful i'll play it, considering my preference for offline, unless my research proves it may be so good it'll overrule this said preference.

i've played a few creeper games, not sure if ive played 3 or not, and i'll also look into that for the sake of it having been suggested.... my experience with the creepers ive played, however, has been same as many others: after a few hours, i feel like i've experienced everything, and there isnt anything to keep me playing.

borderlands, after a quick search, has indicated it is the game/series i thought it was.... im no graphics monkey (as another poster indicated) but the art style of borderlands very much turns me off of it. i may still give it a try, but amidst the other suggestions, i may not get around to trying it.

tinyE ........ now thats funny. and relevant. which makes it more funny. legit laugh from that.

i've covered saints row before, and since you say just cause gets repetitive, im probably not going to play that unless i get really bored and feeling experimental

no description or reasoning for caves of qud, but being in the thread i'll look it up

same thing for kingdoms of amalur: will google it and see if it seems intriguing

witcher 3, another re-suggestion im definately going to be trying when i can afford it.

tales of maj'eyal, wizardry games, and grim dawn..... all things to look into (and wizardry gets a benefit since i actually have them, having recently urchased 6-8)

i have actually played dont starve before, and it is worth another run since life cut my playtime short.... however, before i play again i intend to get expansions and such for it, and look for mods (if i remember right, my experience is that it had a couple issues.... i believe backpack/storage had something to do with it, and a mod fixed that)

underrail i have and will try (only opened it when i tried to install it on netbook, but resolution limitation makes it not run. at its suggestion, may have to boot it up on the big comp and actually play it) and yes, i've played out fallout tactics, however unlike fallout 2, i dont find myself having occasional itches to go back, which is why i didnt mention it before

factorio and rimworld: more stuff to google.

and that's up to date. im going to be playing or listing or googling now, so wont be as present, but i will keep an eye on the thread if any future poster has anything more to suggest.

lol, np :-P sometimes he wakes up haveing slid into an uncomfotable position, so he calls me, i wake up, go help him sit up and ajust his pillows and such, then go back to bed.... making it appear i sleep much longer than i actually do, to the outside world :-P
Apotheon: Won't last you forever, but great for playing through the story once. Has quite some weapon and equipment options, allowing you to approach combat in different ways. Plays a bit like a sidescrolling Diablo, but is no inifinite grind. There are a couple of sections with varied gameplay tasks, so you are not doing the exact same thing all the time and have to adapt accordingly.

Have you played the Gothic games, especially Gothic 1 and Gothic 2? They both have a fairly open world where exploration is rewarded. Quests can be solved in multiple ways, affecting how the different factions and characters view you and interact with you. If you like those, maybe also check out Risen; same developer, similar concept.

Terraria is another obvious choice if you haven't tried that already.

Desktop Dungeons has a lot of strategizing regarding what class, items, god, skills and moves you choose to approach each level, and the game has quite some content.

The DROD games might be worth a look too, combining its gameplay elements in ever new ways over and over again.

Magicmaker might be two or three very fun days though it certainly won't last you long. Let's you create your own havoc-wreaking spells.

Spacechem if you are into puzzle games. This one gives you a great freedom in how you approach your solutions. You can waste hours on one single level if you want to without regretting it.

Everything from Spiderweb could be interesting as well. Lots of content, though you will see a lot of repetition of themes and mechanics from each game to the next. Geneforge is my favorite, but you might want to play something else inbetween installments to keep the series from growing stale.

Elex: Similar to Gothic and Risen, but combines Fantasy and Science Fiction setting for your post-apocalyptic itch.
