I used to be really big on strategy and 4x game and as such came across Paradox titles, in the end I was fed up with them with the carrot and stick updates, always one more patch away from a halfway stable game, and then pathetic DLC money draining. Just got sick of them and then when looking at them in depth there wasn't actually that much strategy and more of an excel sheet (yes before the meme.)

Since then I've moved onto bigger and better things such as Slitherine Strategy games; PanzerCorps, Order Of Battle, Field Of Glory Empires. Civilization 4 ect, Dominions ect.

There is a new Space 4x coming out called Astra Exodus that might be good.

falloutttt: Well, CKII is still kind of ok. This game in my opinion, is the best Paradox game. But complete game today is around 300$ :/

Matewis: Though some of CK2's DLCs are ridiculous (extra models, extra portraits, customize first ruler, ...) I'm finding myself extremely satisfied with the game overall. I only grabbed a couple of the 'essential' expansion DLCs on special, which in total cost less than a typical new release. Given that I'll probably spend hundreds of hours in it (as is), apart from the dozens already spent in it, that's a pretty good deal I feel.
But yes, some of the DLCs really ought to be free given the large number of proper DLCs already available, and that does detract from the game. This is just ridiculous.
Yeah, 20$ for a bundle of portrait DLC. And that's what they call a collection. But before that, those were separate DLC that came with a major DLC, accompanied by music DLC. lol Before they created those collections, the list of DLC on steam store was insane.

Music DLC are absolutely fantastic tho. I mean all music in CKII is an absolute blast.

Oh yes, I did grab a music DLC and it I have to agree, it was totally worth it :)

MadalinStroe: But it's "hard to learn, impossible to master", because the volume to learn is so huge and convoluted. That's the problem, I think everybody would be ok with that, if it was because of the high level play required to be successful.
Then once you learn it, a DLC might change fundamental parts, whether you buy the dlc or not, and you are back to re-learning.

One thing never changed with Paradox, since day one of their existence, to this day, is the music. It's always really good, no matter how old the game is, no matter what game it is.

Oh forgot to mention, the game also actively PUNISHES players who are good at managing their economy by having a storage cap of how many resources you can have at any one time. So you spend hours building up the perfect economy? Sucks to be you because you'll just have to watch your resources waste away at the cap. The megastructures make this even worse.

Oh sorry, disregard this thread, I'm now playing Stellaris again, it's like heroin you're never truly free :(
