Some people might not care about this but the fact that we're automatically opted into their "Trusted Partners" email list any time we claim a free game is unacceptable.

I should not be FORCED to consent to them selling my data to third parties any time there's a freebie for me to claim. It doesn't encourage me to buy more from GOG. On the contrary, it only further convinces me to stop doing so. Their number one competitor service (won't name names but y'all know exactly who that is) does the direct opposite. You have full control over your privacy settings over there, down to outright disabling any sort of tracking cookies on the site. Claiming myriad free games over there does nothing to change that.

Is GOG truly so far in the red that they have to resort to such anti-consumer practices as this?

Whether you care about privacy or not, you obviously care about consumer freedom; otherwise, you wouldn't even be here. If you want to stand against GOG doing typical corpo anti-consumer garbage, stand with me.

Maybe with GOG, but not in general. You'd be surprised at how many ways you can fight back and keep your privacy, even in the surveillance age.

What are these ways? Because didn't Google get outed recently for secretly stealing data with any browsers using Chromium? I don't believe there is a good way to fully protect yourself.

Not enough people care to do anything about it.

An interesting thought crossed my mind. If one doesn't claim a free game (so he doesn't press "add to library" from the GOG page) and then asks for (and is given) a code for that game to get it (with the "redeem a code" process), does the same data consent still applies?? I don't want Tropico 4, I'm just wondering!

From what I understand, not it doesn't.
The "data consent" is there for whoever claims the code, not who redeems it.

+1 It's getting super annoying disabling subscriptions all the time!!! Though, i baceme quite the expert, takes me less then a second now. Funny thing is that before the "Trusted Partners" (GoG really choose the scum of the earth; Google, Facebook, Amazon... what, Microsoft wasn't interested?) i didn't even care.

Are you crazy! Just GET IT NOW for free and put it under hidden if you must (you might wanna try it in the future), because it's a damn good city builder (unless you hate those) and it comes with the expansion as it turns out, despite GoGs wrong labeling.

Games aren't free, you're paying for them either with money or with data. If you don't want to pay, don't buy.

So many ways. Switch to privacy browsers, search engines, tools, give up on big tech... it's actually not as diffcult as you'd imagine.

And to many other comments, you gotta love all the simping for this ridiculous scheme of GOG's. "You don't HAVE to claim freebies", come on. Get outta here with that crap.

Things GoG knows:

An email address, our user name, what games we bought, what country/state we are in (via IP address)....

Possibly what web browser we are using...

I don't know of any other data they could have collected.
