Tallima: The Vampire games have been on my list for a while. But I don't know anything about them except people say "you must play!"

So, there's bloodlines and masquerade. Any others? Do I need to play them all to enjoy then? Just one? Is there anything else I should know?

Thanks!

macuahuitlgog: Skyrim with the Dawnguard DLC can be a really fun vampire game with the right mods.

mechmouse: If you ever have the opportunity to watch the Short lived TV series Kindred, which was "based" on the World of Darkness; take that opportunity and do something else with your time. It was shite!
avatar
macuahuitlgog: Why do you think it is shit?
They took an intricate and well crafted world, rich in lore, vast in potential and created Beverly Hills 90210 with "vampires". Oh and to reduce filming costs, the allowed vampires that have recently fed to walk in daylight. And they used only 5 clans, dropping malkavian and joining Tremere and Ventrue into a magic Ventrue clan. No Sabbat either.

It was about as dark, atmospheric and Gothic-punk as a Sunbed

Genocide2099: Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. A buggy as hell game but it is worth it.
GoG version comes with the unofficial patch built as standard, and it a much more stable game than what got originally released.

WTF. Such blasphemy! Sounds worse than the Twilight series because at least the Twilight series didn't take a dump on the World Of Darkness like this show. The people behind that Twilight series abomination at least had the decency to create their own shitty world with vampires.

FoxySage: There is also the brilliant Misery Stone module for NwN 2 which is set in the Ravenloft setting.

You aren't really a vampire. But there is vampires in it along with other horrors of the night.

Tallima: That looks very pretty. I still haven't played nwn2 for more than a few hours. I just loathe its camera.
Oh yeah, i loathe the camera controls too. That and the party ai are what i hate the most about nwn 2. I struggled with both when i played through the campaigns. Storm of Zehir expansion improved it a bit and i liked the map it added when you travelled between areas.
So far, it's been fun. Controls can be buggy with action detection and the sound effects are horrible and it's really aged strangely, but it's still a heck of a game. Lots of options, great evil-good pulls. The story has been fun. If only the game play were matching, it would be a masterpiece. Tropic s never did like to release finished games.

I think it already is a masterpeice even with the gameplay.

Remember to play at least some part of it as Malkavian, better if you do it after your first playthrough. As for sfx, turn up the volume and play in the dark while you're in Ocean House Hotel. (That is if I didn't remember something wrongly, lol)

And Tallima should also try with the plus patch installed.

I don't remember if the patch was even out when I played it back then, so I'm not sure what it restores. Oh and Tallima, play it with headphones or earphones on when you're in the Hotel, it's even better!

Adds a shit ton of removed content, I almost refuse to play without it anymore.

That's just what I did last night.

I usually play with headphones but I'm on call and my noise isolating headphones make my phone silent.

It did give me a bit of adrenaline in there.

For the bad sfx, the fighting sounds and object collision sounds are really bad. But the voice overs are quite good. And it has some other neat sounds like the loud vs muted Asylum music and some environmental sounds. That said, the sounds of cars rushing by and honking don't match what you see.

Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the game. But if this were remade and finished, it would blow the pants off people.

Nah, you're right. The game has its flaws and there were a number of justified criticism leveled at it back when it was released. Trust me, it wasn't this well-received back then. So it's actually a bit weird to me when I see first noticed how there's a resurgent of praise for the game more than a decade later. Most don't even play Redemption or know how Bloodlines started out... Nonetheless, it's still one of the best vampire games out there. No doubt.

Tallima: if this were remade and finished
Not going to happen. It's too complicated to explain the IP's history with Troka, Activision, CCP and now, Paradox. I don't even remember everything. Anyway, White Wolf has very ambitious plans for World of Darkness now. They even want a TV series by 2021. Next videogame won't be Vampire though, it'll be Werewolf. Vampire will come after that and most likely, Mage will be the third. All 3 exist in the same WoD. Let's hope nothing goes wrong this time, I'm still disappointed over the MMO...

Just get the plus patch that's as "finished" as it will ever be.
Castlevania Lords of Shadow 1 and 2 are vampire themed and pretty decent games - I really enjoyed them personally.

OP meant vampire the masquerade, not vampries in general.

Ah so he did - guilty of just reading the tile - and misreading that too to boot. Oh well - my advice to the OP is just play Bloodlines first - just finished it for the first time myself 2 weeks ago and it's definitely one of the my favourite games now - everyone should try this game. Haven't played Redemption yet but picked it up in the sale last week...

Still recommend the Castlevania games to anyone who hasn't tried them though. Good stories and fantastically presented.
