Man, play BLOODLINES virgin! Not knowing nothing!

And as others say... thank me later!

One of the problems nowadays is that we know everything about the games we're going to play. That excess of information hurts the game... and BLOODLINES does not deserve that. Believe me! It's a grandious game!

It's $4.99 now. And I'm glad I paid 60€ for it xD As a matter of fact, I put the $4.99 GOG version in the basket so I can preserve the original.

Nope, nothing could hurt Bloodlines. Going to have to disagree there.

That's the trick. To get a game, you want to be sure you'll like it. To like it, you have to know something. But I think these folks helped me understand the game. I'm sold. And not too much has been given away. All I know is to not be in the john Malkovich tribe for my first play through. :)

Sorry for making 2 posts in a row, but:

You can play Bloodlines without any previous knowledge of Vampire the Masquerade. You can learn about Vampire the Masquerade playing Bloodlines, since it is one of the best adventures, and the fact that it is a video game helps creating the mood.

If you want a great book, try this:
Vampire the Masquerade 20th Anniversary Edition
With this book you can set any game you want :)
It might be good to know that although they use the same universe, they're not related AFAIK.
And Redemption is a third person action RPG a bit like Diablo/Dungeon Siege (but more linear) and Bloodlines is a first person/third person shooter RPG a bit like Deus Ex (but with vampires and less linear).
And you don't need to know the p&p RPG(s), but except for the emo-vibe it was (and still is) pretty good.

I wouldn't say you could learn the PnP game through bloodlines, maybe how levelling and such goes, but the system is much more in depth than just your character on the computer game.

Ahahaha! In a way, yes. You're right :)

But as someone who never played, I'd rather not know anything about the story, or, more important, the extraordinary people that populates the world :)

mechmouse: I used to run a live action Vampire game back in the 90's for about 3 years.

Tallima: I'm trying not to judge here, but are you saying you guys dressed up like vampires and ran around at night?
To put it bluntly.... Yes

We had access to a small cave network under the Old Salutation Inn in Nottingham.Next door was a Victorian Theological society building we also could use. We met once a week and at its height had over 100 players on the book, though the normal amount was about 30-40.

The clans of Vampire cross a section of society so we had people dressed in business suits (Ventrue), Rockers (Brujah), someone in pyjammas (Malkavian) and everywhere else between. Of course quite a few goths. It was about 3/2 male/female split and we had players from all walks of life. We had a teacher, banker and a medical student.

The funniest day was when the pub changed owner and the original owner neglected to tell the new chap about the arrangement. He was a little shocked.

Going by your group, I'd dress like the Brujah, but act more like a malkavian. :P
Since I found someone who knows and likes Vampire the Masquerade, let me ask you something.

If you could choose 4 Disciplines to have in your (eternal) life, what would be your choice?

My choice:
- Celerity
- Auspex
- Obfuscate
- Presence

I think this cocktail of powers can make you extremely powerful in any department and almost impossible to get Final Death. And they're also very fun! Eheh :)

Being too powerful is boring however. :P

Presence would be my choice however.

Haha! That would scare the heck out of him, I'm sure.

That is pretty wild, though. Got any old photos?

Did any vampire players end up meeting and marrying through the experience? That would be one heck of a unique story, I'd imagine. But perhaps not.

I had a friend who was a fantasy rpg larper. They would do battle and whatnot. But how would a battle work with the vampires? Same sort of thing? Guns, swords, biting? Or was it more of a political game? And were there bats in the cave? I hate bats. Rabies and all. But man, it would definitely add to the ambiance.

Obfuscate
Vampire education: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3DXn3N-jK8 NOT a game video.
Blood Omen and the Legacy of Kain is another series of games you might want to look at though the games themselves are story focused hack and slash apart from the first one.
