...but also bad by execution.
So, as you might have guessed reading this headline on this day I´ve just created a Steam-Account to redeem a humble key I´ve had for ages (Braid) to get it over here for no cost. (and can it buy for some friend of mine instead of for myself)
Well, created that account, tons of captching, changed the profile settings to the ones GOG Connect needs and wanted to redeem the code afterwards. Well, I wanted to redeem the code then...
...looking around...
...continue to look around...
...searching the web...
...watching a youtube-vid...
...and WTF, it appears you can only do this via client.

Well, and this were the moment I started rethinking the process: Why should I redeem that code if I can also gift it to a friend and buy Braid for me? Well, I guess that account will never ever have a game on it then....

Edit to bring some more clarification: You can buy games on their page without the usage of the client, but you cannot redeem keys others bought? And yes, I really was surprised to actually see this as it´s nothing which appears in general discussions about Steam and appears to be totally illogical.

Well, it shouldn't be a surprise to any game player these days that the client forms the backbone of the Steam experience, and that they want as much done within that environment as possible.

For better or worse, that's how their service works. Fortunately, we have options.
Cool story bro.
Go cry into a pillow.
Steam has executions!!
OMG!

NOT SO FAST!

What if they are really cool executions like when the Romans put the condemned into pits with lions and shit. That could be really cool! :D

MY POINT EXACTLY!
So Steam has a functioning client (and website), but just because you can only redeem games via the client it's bad execution?
I'd hate to hear what you think about GOG with its barely functioning website and awful client.
The jews too

I agree, but you are taking some risks with this. The steamers are out in force at the moment. Watch out for the downvote as soon as the thread will die. Am0k and co just can't take the heat, and I wonder how many "I quit" thread we will have to get through for darthspudius to finally leave the forum.

Ten more by my list. Ten I think. I only popped in for the day funnily enough. Floating around with this new thingy, I might as well bother someone whilst I was at it.
Hah, you only found out about the Steam client right now after tons of us was shouting in the forums against the gog galaxy client cause of our Steam experience. Now you know what Steam is and what we are still afraid gog might become. I'm just happy that gog still allows installer download from the store. The only positive thing about Steam are very good sales.

CARRiON.FLOWERS: Cool story bro.
I know I was laughing in the other thread when he was incredulous over needing steam to redeem a steam cd key.
