RWarehall: Frankly, you are a blight on the forum. Many people have commented how they almost fell for a scam but were saved when they searched the forum and found the thread. It has helped many people but you inexplicably ignore that and just call it "trolling". My experience is if you ignore trolls, they just troll harder. This farcical concept that everyone can just ignore the thieves and then they will go away is naive to the utmost. Has anyone ever seen such a thing work? It doesn't because it will never happen. Trolls will keep going stronger until they get a rise out of someone. The concept that you can get dozens of people to say nothing in response is completely idiotic and impossible.
Instead all YOU are doing is victim-blaming and this victim-blaming is far closer to bullying than anything done to help prevent scammers. The fact is many of the times you've butted into various threads in defense of so-called "newbies", most of the time they later were confirmed as a scammer. Makes you a sort of accomplice...
LOL, that's a good one.
The reality here is that this is the internet and the internet is a dangerous place. If you're not watching your own shit, you're probably going to be scammed.
But, in this case, calling that scamming is a bit of a misleading. It's less scamming than trolling. The people doing the scams could just as easily obtain most of the games from pirate sites and the only real motivating factor for them to scam others is the lulz. If they just wanted the game, there's plenty of opportunity to just pirate the thing without the inconvenience. Or to buy it and ask for a refund later on.
I'm with Tauto, somebody needs to be the voice of reason here. No matter how hard you try, all you're doing is revealing yourself to be tetchy and out of touch with reality. If people were to restrict their trading to people they knew and to people who had a rather substantial reputation, the problem of scamming would go away almost over night. It might not ever go away completely, but it would be greatly reduced to the point of a minor annoyance.
I've yet to see anybody come up with a credible explanation for why people shouldn't just take responsibility for themselves when Mr. Gog has communicated rather clearly that he isn't going to police the gift codes and get involved.
The current naming and shaming campaign hasn't resolved the situation, it still goes on and it results in a fair amount of unnecessary unpleasantness when people who aren't doing anything wrong get caught up in it. You yourself acknowledge that there are false positives. And you seem to be OK with that. Some of us value justice a bit more strongly than others do, I suppose.
johnnygoging: I find it amusing that through all of this an aspect of bullying and abuse has arisen in this conflict.
considering this from people who are accused of essentially taking games away from others.
that's money. actual money.
it's just
I
don't even begin
It kind of amuses me that RWarehall is getting sanctimonious, when he's basically just a troll. He can't even stay civil in this thread.
LiquidOxygen80: Well, dag. I was just about to put on my Chris Crocker wig and scream into my camera. :(
RWarehall: Well, it also seems GoG received "multiple complaints" so there is at least the suggestion that scammer alts were "helping" Tauto who admitted to filing one despite all his prior vitriol toward TinyE.
Not too surprising that Tauto calls me out by name and my rep drops 4 points. I was going to do a giveaway at 1000. I reached 999 six days ago and some assholes have decided to downrep me. I've just lost 30 points this week and could not find a single recent post that was "low rated".
I'm not sure that's the reason. I've been rather tempted to mod you down for the idiotic posts you've made in this thread alone.
