wpegg: What? It's not like Elmo's the only one that can post something like this.

I looked for a thread, but was surprised to be unable to find one. Point me to it if there is one.

I have to say, the beginning of it is really dark, and has quite an impact. Won't spoil the ending, but I would say that it's a shame that they introduce so many different unit options, but so little space to play them on. You basically would have to lump through loads of irrelevant campaign to try out different combinations. I'd love to be able to try all those out in a skirmish game, even if it was limited to not playing with human oponents.

It's also not that long for £30 of game, I finished it in a day. It's good fun though, kept me going fot the last 12 hours pretty much straight through.

Anyone else got any thoughts on it?
Did the story at least erased the stain that was Heart of the Swarm and is at least more interesting. Because man I am dissipointed in the portrayal of Kerrigan.

blotunga: But you have to be online when you start the session right?
avatar
wpegg: Ok, I'll agree it's a bit fiddly, you basically have to make sure you've gone online, then gone offline to allow you to play offline, but with a few disconnects of my wireless dongle, I was able to play offline.
Ok. I'll consider it then. Still since i don't play multiplayer i think i wait for a steep discount.

wpegg: I don't think so, I'm pretty sure you only have to be online once (a bit like steam), then offline play is available.

I'll test it now...
Yes you can play Offline. When the game launches it shows the typical Email and Password thing but don't let that fool you. Just write down the Email and Password and it will still let you play the campaign offline. The only concequence is that achievements are disabled.

It has its ups and downs. I suppose my main dissapointment is how transparently they were setting up for spin offs and / or sequels. Most likely unfortunately is they are lining up a World Of Starcraft, as it was all left neatly divided up with each race into various factions all of which have to "learn to live together", setting up things nicely for a load of mini-quests.

As I said, the start is really worth it, play the Auir missions at least as that sets up a really good story. In my opinion it didn't finish it so well.

Yes, me neither. Then I saw its a blizzard drm fest and realised why.

The same. It costs too much for persons who wan't to play singleplayer only and its getting really anoying how much they are stretching one game out + the dlc Legacy of the Void is going to get a dlc too. The so called Nova Covert Ops dlc which will cost some more next to the 40$/40€.

Edit: Who knows if they won't spawn even more dlcs making it even more expensive. At the end its still battlenet dependent.

I actually bought this "full price", as in all three campaigns for 60€. I liked the first one; the second one not so much and it made me realize I don't quite enjoy the game as much as I thought. When I know what I want to do but I'm not fast enough to execute it, what the game is testing is my reflexes and not my strategic aptitude. For reflex testing games, I'll play an FPS, thank you very much. So, I'll probably play LotV, but on an easy difficutly to just blitz through the campaign.
Gotta say guys, the co-op mode is really good fun. I'm playing it when I just get matched up with random people, but everyone is friendly. It adds an entirely new dimension to the game, and is well worth the money.

It does feel bad when you lose one (I've lost 1 out of 4 so far), and you really get the feeling the other guy is swearing at their keyboard for your incomptence, but I think that's just my paranoia.

I'm staunchly against MP stuff, but I don't mind this mode, it's basically like playing with a computer ally that's a little better than usual.

So at least tell me Amon is portrayed as a compelling antagonist?

Like Does he certainly "Feel" like an all powerful evil that you feel intimidated in not challenging him?

Did they removed the "You have to connect at least once every 30 day before you can play off-line" requirement that the first episode had when it was released ?

No, its still there. You have to connect to battle.net every 30 days or you can't play offline anymore.

Yes, Amon roars on to the scene and is really intimidating.

Does the game have too many timed missions?

Elmofongo: Does the game have too many timed missions?
This is a very good question. Wingsof Liberty was full of timed mission and Heart of the Storm was even worse in that point.
