Ok, but with the Excel method I would be able to consider only the differences that matter (for me), instead of the full line.
The boring thing is that I'd need to manually paste the new Magog list every time (and remember to keep it for the next comparison).
I'll check your scripts though, thanks.

P.S: I used both batch&bash in the past to automatically extract&compare parts of such strings of text, but it's bit of a pain for me overall @_@

Sad news, but not entirely surprising. Reasons given are the same as some of mine for stopping my weekly giveaway back in 2014.

Thanks for your contributions mrkgnao!
Damn I forgot to ask... If regional pricing/locking, bugs etc. were the reason for the OP to leave GOG.com... did he/she say what is the alternative? Ie. is there some other service where he hangs around that doesn't have any of those things, or did he leave the whole PC/video gaming for good?

Thanks, so I guess "leaving gaming" (as in, not actively buying new games anywhere) is probably closest to the truth... (S)he certainly has enough games for life, the situation for many of us I believe.

That's the problem, that there is no other alternative, in part due to GOG cornering this market aimed at those wanting something different and then running away with it when they changed track, so no room for someone else to take over.
But otherwise, and not counting huge backlogs, the alternative is the same it's always been, "piracy".

My idea was to use that as a pre-filtering step to prune it down but it shouldn't be too difficult to do what you want either.

Being the perfectionist that I am, I'd probably go for a solution that does involve coding for that though. If I'm going to do more than a couple of quick lines of shell script, I might as well get a nicely formatted report out of it.

You could probably add a macro to make some of the repetitive operations done for you.

BTW, is there any introduction to Python you could recommend?

Search online for "Learning Python the hard way". It is a free online Python course that is quite good as I understand and teaches things in a manner where you get your fingers dirty.

But I want to learn Python the easy way! :-D Thanks! I'll have a look.

In the last year I've been building some (minor) Visual Basic skills due to my exploration into Excel macros and would like to get more into learning that, but my curiosity/interest in Python is starting to grow.

mrkgnao: … to say goodbye.
Seeing the sad changes on GOG over the last few years I was afraid of this to happen. You made my life on GOG more pleasant and a lot easier. Even more than the "What did just update?" posts I will miss your general comments, your humor and your help in the forums. Thank you very much for your company and all your work!

I still hope you (partially) reconsider and come back someday, not for all the work, but just for a bit of conversation here and there. I wish you all the best, mrkgnao!

I know. I've been on travel with limited internet access and time for GOG and unfortunately missed this. But I still hope mrkgnao will drop by occasionally and may read it. At least he has been online while I wrote my last post. :P

I'm not sure if MaGog uses his account to access the site, but it might be her.
Hey mrkgnao, I totally missed this thread.

I'm sorry to see another good old regular leaving the forum. Though it's understandable in its current state.
Hope to see you coming back on a regular basis one day. Till then, many thanks for all the helpful information you've provided and of course for The Lady!
Cheers mate, cu around
