I got it as a gift, started playing and got immediately hooked. Didn't finish it (and I never reached that far) despite spending 40 hours in it.
I disagree with you about the difficulty, game is harder than pen and paper that's for sure, but it can also be made pretty easy if you know how arcane magic in Pathfinder works.

Leroux: This is what's put me off so far from looking further into this RPG. How annoying is it? Is it primarily an RPG with some tacked on strategy mechanics that don't interfere too much, or is it half of a strategy game? I love RPGs and tactical combat, but I really dislike strategy games ...
first of, you must have access to Kingdom Management and manage your time (there's simple guide: fix problems first, opportunities later), you do have time to solve 97% of opportunities and problems, and your kingdom is pretty safe. Granted I played effortless and I would avoid auto managed kingdom difficulty due to bugs. second, it really helps to claim silverstep village before dealing with Varhold (really don't think there's spoiler here, apologize if there is), because you can have access to kingdom management only traveling out of your route a little.
There's ton of timed event, stuff I'm also not found of, but I managed to solve almost all the quests and 98% of kingdom stuff.
I also recommend traveling around the kingdom and out of kingdom, not skipping days at all.

You can put Kingdom building on "Automatic Mode" and completely ignore it. I'm not sure exactly how it plays as I didn't use it, maybe someone else can elaborate on it. I just finished it myself in mid-December and I think it's one of the best, if not the best recent CRPG of it's type. For me the biggest problem with the game is the slow pacing of the last chapters, in comparison to the almost break-neck speed that events happen earlier in the game.
The difficulty can be annoying as well (I finished it on Challenging), some encounters are still a bit overtuned and certain classes seem brokenly OP (Kineticist and Alchemist). But it's more balanced than it used to be, especially the early game.

Thanks for the recommendation! Sounds like an excellent game, and I've been looking for good, new RPGs!

BeatriceElysia: On 29 DEC I finished wonderfully hard Pathfinder Kingmaker
Pathfinder Kingmaker strongest point is diverse class based system and weakest it's difficulty. I finished the game with hospitaler paladin on story/custom and it was a blast!
I loved the artstyle and I loved the sheer among of skills checks and of course I loved the story.
There are tons of skill checks, some of them require reloading, but I would suggest investing in persuasion for best outcome and always have either Linzi or Octavia near for trickery.
story - I wasn't reading a novel, but playing a game and I enjoyed story nonetheless
companions are in need for better optimization, but they are there and you should definitely use them as presented... with occasional mercenary just for flavor.
Kingdom building was a drag, but I think that's feature that has no place in CRPG.

Sounds interesting but this seems to be yet another game where the wealth of different editions and options overwhelms me, and I am unsure which edition (and DLCs) to buy. I presume the 80€ bundle includes everything, but maybe I don't want everything like making-of videos or soundtracks.
I guess I will wait...

I found all the DLC to be good value, but i'd say none of them are required to fully enjoy the game. The base edition will easily give 100 hours of entertainment if you enjoy CRPGs.I guess I will wait...

I even want to play this game, but besides being expensive in my country, my English is still not good enough to fully understand the history of the game.
