Dunno if that will solve your issue, but it may. It's just one of MANY reasons 7 will be my last Windows operating system. I'll be switching fully over to Linux, (most likely Mint), when 7 is no longer seeing regular releases.

Yes, Call of Duty's single-player was also not launching for me, and after I tried this procedure, it worked. Now, will this directly harm your PC? No, not really. It will make it a bit more vulnerable, security-wise, which is why Microsoft decided to disable it by default (and in the process, make a lot of old retail games unusable without resorting to either the above procedure or cracks).

You should consider yourself fortunate and go play something worthwhile instead.

Using the internet can be dangerous, but you can mitigate the risk.

Download from a "reputable" site, and if you want to be really careful, run it in something like Sandboxie first.

I have dozens of No CDs for all my disc-based games and never had an issue with viruses or security.

IRYO, but this is supposed to be one of the best games ever made. [tbh though it probably is a bit overrated.]

UPDATE: I deleted a Windows update. I forget the name of it but the game now works.

If you have set updates to automatic, then this update might reinstall itself in the future.
