It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

megarock58: UPDATE: I tried patching the game, it did not work. should I try removing recent security updates?
By patching, do you mean one of the official Call of Duty patches? That won't work. What you should do is:

"Re-enable the secdrv service on Windows Vista, 7, 8, or 8.1: If you’re not using Windows 10, Microsoft provides instructions for reenabling the secdrv.sys driver they disabled with the recent security updates. To do this, open a Command Prompt window as Administrator. (Open the Start menu, search for “Command Prompt,” right-click the Command Prompt shortcut, and select Run as Administrator.) Run the “sc start secdrv” command to start the service, and run the “sc stop secdrv” command to stop it afterwards. Microsoft provides instructions for enabling it automatically at boot using both commands and the registry, too.

This will make your Windows PC less secure, and it shouldn’t work on Windows 10, where the driver has been completely removed. If you do this, you should disable the service when you’re done with the affected game to keep your PC more secure."

It was an official patch FYI. I will look at the procedure you mentioned.
What exactly happens? Do you double-click the icon and it doesn't launch at all? Can you get the main menu?

The menu loads, but when I try to the launch the game, nothing happens.

Are you using integrated graphics? Or do you have a dedicated video card? (AMD or Nvidia)

I assume I have integrated graphics.

Did you try changing the vert sync setting yet? I seem to remember that was a similar issue when I tried it.

How do you do that?
Which Call of Duty game are you talking about specifically?

I have World at War and Modern Warfare install on win7 64bit Pentium duo core 2.6ghz
and they run flawlessly. (retail DRM disc versions).

I think Call of Duty 2 is the only one I can't run on win7 64bit...

My system has all the direct X from 6 to 9 installed and running GTX450 NVidia graphics card.
but I think the World at War and Modern Warfare ran with the onboard integrated chip.

either from the video settings menu (ingame) or in your video card settings (outside the game on your pc). I only know how to do the second one with nvidia cards though.
Since GhostwriterDoF mentioned DirectX, stating the game runs on his machine, it's always a good idea to check if the old DirectX components are installed on your system.

Simply install the June 2010 DirectX runtime package, to complete your system with all necessary DirectX components.

You can find it here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

Run directx_Jun2010_redist.exe and choose a separate folder to extract the installer. Go there and start DXSETUP.EXE to start the installation. This won't affect your newer version of DirectX on your PC, but add the older libraries needed. Now restart your system. You can delete the extracted installer files afterwards.

UPDATE: I tried that, it did not work.
After getting used to Steam and GOG games, i really could not be bothered with disk games.

if i feel like playing a disk game, i think to myself "oh do i really have to F around with a disk to run it? Screw that, i will just play this GOG game instead".

Or somehow find a digital copy of the game.... i re-purchased many games i already have on disk because disk is pain in the ass.... first you have to find the disk, open the case, try and prize it out without breaking it or getting your fingers all over it blah blah blah, open the disk drive, have to put it in correctly blah blah, then the disk drive halts the computer while it comprehends the disk and making annoying noises etc etc ..... and if you have several different games on disk and you have to keep swapping the disks out, OMG... why the hell bother?
Any more suggestions?

Clutching at straws here but did you check Windows Updater for optional updates that you might want/need?
