First up, this is my personal opinion on GOG and their behaviour in the last 1-2 years. If you do not agree with me and still go on buying games and movies from GOG, it's fine with me, but please don't tell me how I 'm wrong, because I see it that way and this is my only way to express it. I also know that GOG will not change their mind, but this will not stop me from my boycott. Maybe some people will follow, but who knows what might happen then. (Aye, one might dream(

In short term ... Not buying from GOG again until they go back to their original principles.

Longer ... I have been buying games from GOG since a few years (I had another account, which got lost on the way) and everything was fine until GOG stared to get rid of their principles one after the other. At first, it was their regional ripoff, but I thought "the old games are not affected" and so I still bought some games I really liked. When they started the german webpage, I wasn't really paying attention, because I like games in their original way. When I then found out, that GOG also started their Steam-like reginal blocking, that was it for me. No more games from GOG, no support (by telling others that they should buy here) for GOG. (because I don't really need the old games, because I played them back in the days, but sitll thought they are nice to have. Something like hunters and gatherers).

I then started to look at their way, which for me is the same way of Steam, at the moment mostly just without drm mechanisms. Mostly because of something like http://www.gog.com/forum/general/defcons_drm_is_still_active_support_doesnt_give_a_crap and http://www.gog.com/forum/general/fear_installed_securom_all_over_my_computer_does_anyone_know_how_to_get_rid_of_it and their way to ignore these problems, It all adds up to a small time Steam. who would like to become a real contender.

Now from the start of that Steam-like regianl blocking, I started to collect games that I would have bought, but because of my principles have not done. And until they go back to the gold old GOG, which will not happen, I will not buy here again.

These prices are from a deal which GOG offered, since I (one exception) don't buy full priced games:

- Fear 2: 13,49€
- Metro Last Light Redux: 11,29€
- Saints Row 3: 4,49€
- Blood 2: 1,79€
- Mortal Kombat 1+2+3: 2,69€
- The Secret Of Monkey Island 1+2 SE: 6,19€
- Sam&Max: Hit The Road: 3,69€
- Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number: 11,19€
- Total Overdose: A Gunslinger's Tale in Mexiko: 1,99€
- Tropico 4: 5,39€
- PILLARS OF ETERNITY: HERO EDITION: 28,09€
- WASTELAND 2 DIGITAL CLASSIC EDITION: 19,99€
- Metro 2033 Redux: 8,09€
- Metro Last Light Redux: 8,09€
- Collection One: http://www.gog.com/game/forgotten_realms_the_archives_collection_one (9,09€)
- Doom II + Final Doom + The Ultimate Doom + Quake: The Offering: 15,27€
and now
- Wolfenstein 3D + Spear Of Destiny: 5,99€
- Return To Castle Wolfenstein: 5,99€
- Quake 2: 5,99€

This makes a total of 157,50€ that GOG did not get and still counting.

Just to make it clear, none of you have to agree with me (would be nice though), so please refrain from telling me what an idiot and romantic I am and that "this" or "that" will never happen. Before you say that think about the following for a second.

Who would have thought, that nearly all Kickstarter games get a drm free release?
Who would have thought, that games like Fallout or Metro 2033 or Star Wars or Monkey Island or Baldur's Gate or Anno or or or get a drm free release?

So this is my only way to show that I'm not content with the changes GOG made.

Regards,

John

P.S.: I will keep updating this thread with every new game I would have bought.
P.P.S.: I'm not going out silently, because I really liked the original idea of GOG.
You forgot to say what gog should have done, about this Wolfenstein thing.

There are too many people in here taking life WAAAAAAAAAAY too seriously! XD

And thank god you are going to keep updating this thread because I might seriously have to fucking shoot myself if I don't have this to look forward to every day. :P

Live hard, play hard, die hard :P

(Insert half-hearted joke about some game that has nudity on GOG)

Not to dismiss your claims, but no one forces you to buy here. That's why there are competitors in this space. Granted, there aren't many DRM free ones, and GOG is unique in that regard, but they're an online distributor like the rest of them and they have to make exceptions for some publishers because they can't please everyone.

That last point is important because if they tried to, no publisher would join in. I'm sure they have their own criteria, so I'm not judging that part.

You might contact GOG directly: http://www.gog.com/support/contact/other_questions_issues

Where do you plan to buy from instead?

Or you could just ignore the thread and continue on like the OP has suggested at the beginning of their post, unless ofcourse you want to shoot yourself but that will be entirely on you. ;)

I'll ignore it. :D

I still might shoot myself but that will be on accident while cleaning my gun or something.
Good, lets keep this shit in this thread so a million of these don't pop up in the already cluttered forum.

...one can dream...
um... bye??
I am going to boycott this thread, because TinyE is going to ignore, so it won't be any fun.

This is a list of responses I would have made, if I wasn't boycotting it.

-A number of Monty Pytho references like "welcome to another episode of Spot the Looney".

-I'd point out that starting a thread by telling people not to tell you how you're wrong is not a very good way to start a discussion, nor to sound like you might actually be right.

-I'd point out that regional blocking is, I believe, not something that is up to GOG, but law of particular countries

-DRM-free is what still sets GOG apart from Steam, and as long as that is not gone, calling GOG "small time Steam" will be wildly inaccurate.

-Finally: I understand (at least some) of your issues with GOG, and neither applaud nor condemn your decision (though the "don't argue with me, just behold my list! approach is rather silly). Personally I think you're overreacting, but if you feel like this is where you have to draw the line- power to you. I'll save my "boycott card" for a darker day.

This, this and more this.
GoG are not regionally blocking games because they want to, they are doing it because the law says they have to. Why is that so hard for people to grasp?
They might have gotten away with it when they were smaller but not any more.
