Just reading the Hysterical Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) today and noted this story:

Well that's going to tell Facebook isn't it. £500k fine. I would imagine that ol zuck's wrote a cheque there and then for a million and said keep the change. Then added it in as a tax writeoff saving the company billions this year in tax.

Oh, and we will likely get a flood more pop ups on all sites saying that "this site malicious and without remorse gathers all your data for no reason other than money making, do you accept yes or do not use site", just like with cookies.

I'll bet you a pop tart that Facebook made that much in the time it took you to do up that post.

That fine reminds me of the Goldsman Sachs banker who was found guilty a year or so ago of financial espionage and insider trading from stealing info while going to Fed meetings. He was nailed with a $5,000 fine and a handful of hours picking up trash on the road. These people do deals that can theoretically sink entire national GDPs and they get slapped on the wrist. Some crackhead jacks a 7-11 for $500 and they get 3 years in the pokey, even more if they've already got a record. I'm all for justice being handed out justly, but it does seem like those with really expensive suits get a few too many hall passes while in class.

Then again, ole' Suckerberg was quoted and known for saying his users were... what's the term, 'dumb fucks.' I might not be a brilliant hedge fund manager, but I think I'm making the right move in not investing with Facebook. Those who do may just be what he says they are. Maybe ole' Mark was right all along. Should we be cynical and just take the ride, or swallow the red pill and see where Morpheus takes us?
These so called ''watchdogs''need a reality check when attempting to hand out a fine.Fines for Corporations like this should be realistic and hurt, not a sissy slap on the wrist. One of our banks made 8 billion profit last year and get fined a million for charging people fees when they are dead. It's a joke on all of us.....yuk yuk yuk.
Usually when I need a laugh I read GoG's new releases list.
The issue with the legislation to protect user data is that it is toothless. Usually they manage to get around them by writing contradictory details like "we don't use your data for X," but turn around and say "by using our product, you agree that we're not liable for how employees may use your data." When you look at discord's code, you can see numerous DNS names, and most of them don't even have a website to them, so you know it's not for some advertising code or something. But, hey, it's GDPR compliant. Oh, and you're supposed to download their "desktop client" so that more stuff works, but all it is is a web browser ("electron"), presumably that gives it more access to your computer than a browser would. But what do they need the access for?

On another note, the whole thing is about how big boys in the US are talking about implementing their own GDPR. These things don't actually work, and effectively only trip the little guy, which is why the big boys always support legislation that supposedly causes them problems, kind of like why the mainstream media supports internet censorship.

EDIT REASON: More info.

Sometimes the list can also make me sad, as the games that I've voted in the community wishlist and been waiting for so long never seem to come out from the faraway horizon.

I agree. I heard The Quest HD is ultimately going to release DRM-free elsewhere sometime soon.

Oh, where? That was one on the watch list. Another was something like 7 mages (can't find post on it now), another grid based rpg.

I am sure their legal teams expenses for that trip were higher than that!
