I've checked the trailer, for now it looks rather like one of those "walking simulators" without too much interaction. So probably there will be more watching than playing.

On the plus side - it has very nice and cordial atmosphere, which is a nice change from... almost anything created nowadays.

Big Plus from my side for one thing, that it doesn't seem to try to make any "artistic changes" to the biblical content. I'm personally feeling sick on the same thought of all those postmodern "artistic" performances, it will be great if this title will be free of it.

Have hope that it will be a decent game (even if only "walking simulator"), I'm always sad and a bit angry, whenever games with some solid references to Christianity are poorly made.

Disclaimer - I'm totally aware that plenty (maybe even majority) of players are people who are either ignoring (not that bad) or being hostile (this is sad) to the religious topics, especially those openly related to Christianity. I'm not belonging to any of those two groups, which probably makes me a bit alienated in gamers' community. Anyway, I have hope that if so many players are eager to accept such things as crude joke of Holy Trinity in Spellforce 3, they will also accept such concept for this game.

Um you do know the average life span was way way lower back then from varies factors right? Aswell as do to how things was big families was extremely common for people to marry and have kids extremely young.. While modern day such going ons would be bad (in most places) It wasn't then as ages we see as normal life spans now was extremely abnormal then.. But as life spans rose in how old a person reglarly can live in most places legal ages and such .. Aswell as what is seen a age one can legally have sex and marry keep rising .. Think with a lense of that time when judging things of that era rather then modern lenses

Those sound effects don't offer me much confidence. Not sure what to call that sound effect other than "you can hear the sparkles." Not sure what they're aiming for, here, tbh. it looks to me like it's a game for kids, yet simultaneously one they aren't likely to understand. Let's be clear, targeting christians is more popular than targeting Jews, at this point, and the jews have been unfairly targeted for pretty much all of documented history (including by Christians). There's any number of reasons for this, but like Jews, we make really, really good scapegoats for problems. Might have something to do with the fact we almost never fight back (to which i separate myself greatly from other Christians in this regard). I know bether than to bother with going into details on what i think about the BS, but i know that'd never fly here on GOG, even by people who normally agree with me. Atheists like Stefan Molyneux and Dr. Jordan Peterson give me hope for us and our Jewish brethren. There's almost certainly a movement to change this behavior, but i doubt we'll see the change in our lifetimes.
Honestly, if parodies were more like that i'd be more interested. I doubt if anyone made a "badass Jesus" game where he's going around blowing shit up that anyone would take it seriously and i can't imagine too many christians taking offense to it, really. Hell, you could make an FPS game where Jesus takes on military institutions. Jesus running to a corner and healing his wounds by sitting still makes more sense than your average call of duty hero.

Check elsewhere for a game called Five: Guardians of David. It is a hack&slash ARPG that performs very well, has interesting gameplay, and doesn't add a mountain of BS to David's story.
A few liberties are taken, but they neither hard contradict nor soft conflict the Bible. For example one playable character in a few stealth missions is a sister of David who is not in biblical canon. They acknowledge that in-game and say they included her to add variety to gameplay without altering the story too much. I think they succeeded in that goal. Anything they added feels natural for the society of the time and could well be there within the stuff that the biblical writers didn't bother including.

The only complaint I have is that the game is too easy, but heretic it certainly is not.

On a tangent, I would really like to see a RTS covering anything between Joshua's conquest of Canaan up to the captivity in Babylon.

Yeah... I wouldn't be interested in that at all. I think most christians would choose not to engage in a game that portrays Jesus as someone he really is not. I can somewhat understand if someone who isn't christian creates that game tho I would be disappointed, really wouldn't want to play it and would find it very likely that the only reason they chose to do it is to attract controversy for more sales.

Jesus was actually shown as both loving and a man of action(upsetting the vendors at the temple, etc) in the bible.....so while I would see something like kohlrak described as probably not liked by more stalwart christians/catholics, something more realistically showing Jesus's other side might be seen as enjoyable/entertaining/acceptable to play by them.

Can you think of any other instances of him going table-flipping and whip-snapping? I can't see it.
What would you create for gameplay? Respawning temple vendors attacking Jesus? Would there be any other stages and enemies? Maybe roman soldiers? I dare you find one soldier in the scriptures that was hit by Jesus. In fact I can't remember a single other written instance where he acted in a furious or violent fashion. (Technically there is the Book of Revelations' moment where the Antichrist gets destroyed, but good luck integrating that moment into a game. The main character would be WAY overpowered.)

The gospels state Jesus did battle and defeated the pharisees in a lot of debates so maybe you could have a game that plays with word attacks like Oh...Sir!! The Insult Simulator. But I don't think it meshes well with these ideas of "sword-wielder Jesus", "kung-fu Jesus", "magic-blasting Jesus", "army commander Jesus"...

So yes, there is a bit of action Jesus in the gospels but it is
a) very likely to be misconstrued, and
b) hardly enough to flesh a game out of.
Might as well go for a different setting, a different character in the same setting or create an entirely new character. Unless they want Jesus for the cheap controversy to bring views and hope to get a few more sales from that.

What with the likely leanings/motivations(such as making Jesus more relatable/palatable to new potential followers) of the bible's authors, they might've wanted to cut back any mentioned of such behavior when writing the books that comprise it.

I'd think it depends on things like if they included stuff about Jesus from the apocrypha/etc, and if they made Jesus (in game) more like god in the old testament or the new testament.

IDK, perhaps it's just the "trailer thing", but it looks a bit weird.

If my assumption is correct, I guess that it could be appealing for people who normally don't play too much or don't even play at all. Surprisingly, it has in common one thing with such things like "car mechanic simulator" or "farm manager" - type of theme/main topic, which, is, well, normal (so no fantasy/sci-fi stuff etc) and appealing to "common people". Plus the type of gameplay, which is not especially challenging.

Plus people, who are just curious to see some kind of "interactive Bible/Gospel", on modern engine etc. IMO it is quite curious attempt.

I wish that at least topic of Christianity/Catholicism could be "spared" in general, I know that many will tell "but that would be a censorship" - I get it, but crude jokes (or sharing popular, yet innacurate historical myths) - I'm strongly convinced that not having those in games/movies/etc would not harm "freedom of speech" that much.I know it's unpopular opinion.

The funny thing is, this kind of simulators is mostly played by people who work in the respective field. Farm simulators are often played by farmers. Bus driving simulators are often player by bus drivers and so on. It's strange that people play in their free time what they do during work anyhow. ... But at least in Germany there was an extensive market research that came to this conclusion. Maybe it isn't so surprising after all. I'm a physicist and I love games with good physics based puzzles and I guess many rocket scientists play Kerbal Space Program.

Does that mean that this game will be mostly played by Jesus himself? ;-)
