Question: How does this keep your PC safer? One can do such and use extensions to do so or DL it manually......unless it's hotgrls.exe.bat one should be fine.

If it's like Detou's pwds with 24+ characters and non-standard ones that could take even the best cracking software YEARS to decrypt.

One would obviously keep the notepad near them while using the PC and then lock it up when done.

My point was that people have all their eggs in one basket when they use a password manager with a single database locked by a single master password. And modern software is so complex that it's not a question of whether there are vulnerabilities, it's a question of whether an attacker manages to exploit them before they get patched. Trying to exploit vulnerabilities in software is virutally free of risk. I sincerely believe that it is much more likely to leak your passwords in that manner than it is for them to get caught up in a burglary. Burglary is quite risky.

Now do as some said and either make a file backup of your links and store it on a thumb drive/etc or copy the links into a paper and pen notepad IRL. Also gl and I hope you have better luck in the future with such. :)

Imo both your system and detou's have flaws and good points...neither is perfect and has their SPOF as does most things in life.

My brother had his card details stolen, they never found out how, but it could have simply been left out and stolen by someone they know, all phones have cameras these days, someone happens to be left alone for a few seconds while your notepad is out.

Thats all it takes. People get lazy, or simply forget, it just so happens the time they do, something goes wrong.

No, but it seems(to me...I could be wrong, though) that you are trying to prop up your system as the best/without any or with few flaws while dismissing others a bit.

All systems have flaws and weak points. If someone had a spy cam in your room and you didn't know it(yeah it's out there but it could happen) or someone saw you enter your password some other way then they'd have your entire password list.

Basically all systems have that SPOF to worry about and no method is perfect.

Is this an echo chamber? as i stated that at the very beginning. Yes i pointed out flaws in the pen and paper method, which they didn't really like, but i can accept the flaws in my own method, regardless of which method you use, the Human part is the biggest flaw of all.

I was stuck with the same problem :D Biometrics is certainly an amazing thing to secure your data, passwords, and so on... but sometimes there're so many problems with it.( Anyway, for those who are interested in this topic I mean the history of biometrics read this article https://recfaces.com/articles/history-of-biometrics.

Over and over i've said not to get Windows 8/10, turn off updates and you'd be happier and with fewer problems. 90% of the problems it seems popping up in recent years is almost always windows 10 related, update broke game, DOSBOX won't render right, settings were reset, can't do XYZ anymore, etc. (That or Galaxy bugs)

Oh well. Just have to see where things go. I'm happy with my Win7, Linux Mint or Pi4 right now (actively using right now during a move).

Sorry to hear you are going through this, tech problems can be really grating and frustrating AF. As the years go by I sometimes find myself thinking about technology and questioning it in terms from the movie "Fight Club".

We humans are all about improving life with various conveniences and then we become more and more reliant on the conveniences. Technology is such an amazing convenience, but then it is also a combination of broken buggy crap that can make life miserable too, and we can end up having to constantly second guess the tech, fix the tech, and essentially be owned by it. I've felt that way a number of times over the last number of years so I can feel your pain too.

I'm locked out of my desktop PC at the moment due to tech failures, so I took a vacation from that one. Wanting to build a new PC for a while now but availability and pricing of CPUs and GPUs are ridiculous right now and for the foreseeable future so it's a game of making do and dealing with a variety of inconveniences.

Anyhow, hope you're able to recover more of your stuff and get things back to normal!
