DaCostaBR: If these people have such a big problem with Steam why don't they just buy the bundle then torrent the games?

HypersomniacLive: As Licurg just said, you seem to have missed the point, so lets try this again, shall we?
Paying even $1 on this deal is spending money that supports a practice and culture they're against.
For a few more $ they can get the games some place else without having to go against their beliefs or through all the hassle of the proposed solution.
I pointed out that the hassle was too much, even if one could get over their principle.
From skimming through the conversation I thought it was only on Steam. It's just that I've seen similar conversations play out endlessly with "I want the game, but I don't want it on Steam, but I want the game, but I don't want it on Steam..." and the only purpose for them was not to find a solution but to whine about it, and I can't stand that type of stuff.

In this case I agree, if you can get it somewhere else DRM-free then it's simpler to just get it there and be over with.
Already have X3 TC, Worth $6 to get BTA in my case? (i assume soundtracks come with any purchase? )

011284mm: Because they want to play the games and support the developers. The idea situation should be that the X series games are sold with DRM-free links via HB or Egosoft.
Why should someone have to go through the effort of buying a game then illegally downloading it? If you think like that you would just skip part 1 and go to playing the games.
But we don't live in an ideal world, so assuming that people want to play a game that has DRM without the DRM (and that it isn't available DRM-free elsewhere) then they should go through the effort of buying the games then torrenting it, something that would allow then to both support the developers and play the games. The other option is to not buy it and not play it. If you think it's not worth the effort or that you would then play it but not pay for it, well that's on you.

Even if they were Steam exclusives, suggesting to buy the bundle (go against your principles) and then torrent them (probably another go against your principles) isn't what I'd call a "solution".

Being one of the "whiners", maybe it's worth me explaining why. It's less about trying to annoy other users and more to alert developers that there are different types of users out there.

Yes, I get why people who've invested a lot of money in Steam and who genuinely enjoy achievements etc. will support Steam.

But for someone like me, Steam is worse than vaporware: at least vaporware doesn't inconvenience me.

And yes, there are workarounds to DRM, but I've gotten to the point where I'm no longer interested in wasting my time pursuing them. If a game studio wants my money now, they need to sell me a game that doesn't inconvenience me. And if that makes me a whiner, well then I'm happy to be one :)

Like I said, I thought they just didn't want Steam, not that any "principles" might be hurt. As for torrenting it, the same way having a ROM as a back up is perfectly fine when you do have a legal copy of the game, if I legally buy a copy of a game I don't see how deciding to download it through a torrent client instead of another client is in any way wrong or an offense to someone's principles.

If you feel justified, that's perfectly fine, so is advocating for a DRM-free version and letting the devs know about it, because that is doing something. It's people sitting around wallowing in self-pity and agreeing with each other for ten pages that "it sucks :-(" and not doing anything constructive to change that, that I don't like.

Some of us prefer discussing Steam to experiencing Steam ;-)

Hey guys, somebody doesn't want X3:TC, X3:AP and/or the superbox ? If so then they'd find a good home with me. I'm willing to exchange Rocketbirds and A Virus Named Tom. It's not much, but... :/

Not sure if you know, it's a single Steam key for the entire base bundle, and then another for the over the minimum. I doubt many people who bothered to pay more than the minimum would be willing to trade all of it, so I don't think you're going to have much luck trading, but by all means good luck.
I may or may not have gotten the bundle (BTA) as a gift code. I PM'd Shadowcat69 - if they don't respond to me by tomorrow night I may or may not give it to someone else who wants it :)

(I already own every X game except Rebirth [the new one]) - I think that the bundle is very worth it, if you can get past the Steam requirement.

... Oh, I didn't know that. Well I knew that the base bundle was like this but they've done similar things in the past and I was kind of counting on the over-than-average bundle not to be like this. Bummer.

Well in any case, thanks for wishing me good luck. With that news I might have to cross fingers. :(
