Fesin: Okay, I bought Bastion, and it pisses me off before I played even a second of it. First, it doesn't give me an .exe-installer, but instead a .msi, that installs three other .msi files without it won't work.

After that, I finally start the game, and the entire shit is in German. I didn't ask the game to play in German, it didn't say anything about German in the Installer, and there isn't any option in the menu to change it. What the fuck?!

Short version: Is there a way to change the language?
Is your OS in German? I don't have the game, so I don't know for sure, but I ran into all kinds of linguistic issues when I was attempting to install on a Chinese OS back when I was living over there. You haven't lived until you've taken on MS Word in a language you can't read. xD

Yes, it is. Please don't tell me it forces me into the German version, just because I have a German OS? That would be incomprehensible stupidity.

...which nevertheless is quite common in .msi packages. Welcome to the wonderful world of Microsoft.

I think it might. :( Microsoft seems to think everybody is monolingual.
Oh, fuck me!
Although in this case I'm blaming the developer. I'm pretty sure they could've made it possible to just select the language from the menu. Or they could've used .exe like a normal human being.

Now I'm not sure if I should demand a refund from the HIB guys. On the one hand, I didn't pay very much, so it would come across as being really, really cheap. On the other hand I do feel kinda ripped off now, and I really have no interest in playing the game in German, so it would probably just rot on my HDD.

I hate it when games do that. There's probably a workaround, if you ask around or contact the dev, but you shouldn't have to go to all that trouble just because someone was too lazy or ignorant to implement a menu option for it. :/

That should fix it.
I stumbled over that a few times myself, but I think it only refers to the Steam version? Otherwise I have no idea where and how to put this parameter.

Have you tried making a shortcut to the game, right-clicking on it and changing the setting "target" by adding that "-lang de" line after the "bastion.msi" or whatever it's called?

Ah thanks, that did the trick! +1

What a stupid, unnecessary work-around. Even though it works now, it really didn't make me warm up tp the game...
Why would you do this as a developer?

Fesin: Why would you do this as a developer?
(a) because you don't know that the software you're working with automatically adopts to the language of the OS?
(b) because you think it's no big deal to add such a command line, as you expect all of your customers to be tech geeks like yourself (or maybe you aren't even aware that there are less tech-savvy people in the world, or if you are, maybe you're arrogant and think such people don't deserve to play your game)?
(c) because you're too busy or too lazy and don't feel like adding graphical in-game options menus?

Choose one. ;)

(In any case, I agree that it doesn't make a professional impression, and seeing that Bastion is a highly acclaimed and popular game, and now even published by Warner Brothers, I don't think it should get away with such excuses anymore.)

Played the demo for 10 minutes and decided to buy the game. Not that I'm likely to play any more of it now that I bought it.

I don't think they're necessarily competition.
