Actually always interesting how subjective tastes can be. This bundle is kinda niche aimed again and i totally understand your guys disappointment. But me surprisingly enough it turned out to be an amazing selection.
While me looking at the game started with a disappointed sigh when i saw XCOM 2 (Which own as Basic already on Steam and as GOTY on GOG :D) i suddenly realized the bundle turned out good for me even without relying on XCOM 2.

Mo Astray pretty interesting i guess and a first pick as well.
Chess a really nice surprise.

- at this point the bundle actually already felt "worth" for me (being on a prepaid classic plan)


Rise of industry feels like as nice to try and Jurassic as a casual eyecandy (but these both are second tier picks for me)

And well Xcom 2 i will end up giving to a friend and most likely making somebody really happy so ya i consider this a good bundle for me but a niche bundle for sure

Which is fine, though they aren't selling the service based around taste subjectivity. While true, you can pick what you do like and leave what you don't, the idea that this entire outlet was largely intended to be a differing experience compared to that of regular game bundle offerings makes the selection overall seem increasingly less tantalizing on a broad scale with regard to retaining subscribers or pulling fresh ones in. With most regular game bundle offerings topping out at $12 max tiers these days, you'd be saving more money even if you'd be sacrificing freedom of Choice's choice in the process.

Yup, I got one of those, $15 monthly for a year no option to paused. Tbh I could be tempted if it was December 2019 and my finance not broken by Covid-19.

Their offers do sound pretty desperate, for quite some time now already. I mean, just look at how many clicks it takes to just pause for a month , like 4 or 5? "Are you REALLY sure you want to pause? SERIOUSLY? 100% sure? No second thoughts?", and then sometimes the system even tries to haggle with you, like just now, when I paused - "What if we give you $2 off to not pause this month?"

Anyway, I did pause regardless. This bundle is pretty lopsided towards strategy/sim games, and those are not my thing. It's not that much of a choice if 7 out of 12 games come from those two (similar) genres I avoid, and three of the others were already freebies on Epic or Twitch Prime before ...

Tbh, as a 6-month-classic-plan member, I waas quite impressed by TV2 and this month's lineup. OTOH, I knew nothing about HB when XCom was in the monthly 3 years back, so it matters not at all to me that it is. There are few enough AAA games coming out every year, and even fewer where the dev is willing to work with HB to sell keys--as longas it is still a AAA-rated game and the price is skyhigh. Looking back, it seems to me that early HB monthlies had their pick of AAA games whose devs were all to willing to put them in a bundle, while now fewer new games are going to bundles, and HB might be running out of options. I still find enough that is worth it to me every few months. Also, as gamers, we accumulate games, and I have several times read comments along the lines of "great monthly game!--if only I hadn't bought it 2 months ago on sale and already sunken X hours into it, I'd buy this monthly in a snap!"

All this to say, I think the disillusion with modern bundles is maybe partly HB's fault, somewhat nostalgia makes old bundles seem nicer, partly we have so much we are less excited about new things (especially now with the world news), and fewer devs willing to partner with them for the price HB is selling the bundle for.

Rainy Season does look kind of cute. Too bad I already paused my subscription. Can you unpause it just to access the Treasure Trove? If not, I'll just wait til next month.

I strongly recommend always waiting until the last Thursday of the month to pause your subscription. The auto-renew date is always the last Friday of the Month, so if you pause it the day before it's set to auto-renew, you'll only lose your subscriber benefits (access to the Humble Trove and store discount) for 8 days. Humble Bundle itself even suggests doing this in its FAQ.

Yeah, but it's also risky, if you forget to pause. Anyway, what I've found out is that you lose the store discount benefit for good that month if you pause and unpause,but you can still access the Treasure Trove if you unpause after pausing.

EDIT: Considering the current Spring Sale on Humble though, I guess it actually was a bad idea to pause this early.

Looking at the actual selection and thinking about the Humble Indie Anniversary bundle, I'm not too worried about the chances of missing out on anything great due to pausing, which I think, is exactly what I will do again, this month. It's a really silly system; instead of buying a Humble Monthly bundle every once in a blue moon, I will now NOT pause Humble Choice every once in a blue moon. ;P (But it actually happens less, not more often than with Monthly.)
