NVidia totally dropped the ball by deciding to deprecate 32bit CUDA on the new RTX50 series GPUs. Because that means that GPU accelerated PhysX also no longer works for 32bit games. I have no idea how many hundreds or even thousands of games are affected but I do know there have been a lot of AAA games using that, like Arkham City, Borderlands 2, Cryostasis, Mirror’s Edge, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Bioshock Infinite, etc.

NVidia has already admitted that they have no plans to change that.
uh

uhm

yea....

you're right :)
Just run it on the CPU. That old ass PhysX stuff won't make any halfway decent CPU break a sweat...
Why are you still playing old games?! They want you to buy new games. Games should be designed so part of them is always online so the servers, and thus the games, can be shut off when they do not bring in enough money anymore. I guess Nvidia now has been told to help the poor game developing giants.

Ahem, yes so there should still be a software mode to make it run on the central processor, right. 'Optimised' to run badly, if my memory serves me right.

EDIT: Post above me was faster to tell about it also working on CPUs.

I often wonder if everyone at the top of these companies are taking bets at how fast they can Hindenburg their own companies....but not just computer stuff. Feels like a race to steal as much as they can, before the world economy collapses.
Y we are AMD ONLY, CPU and GPU.
That's crackerjack compared to the actual problem: Their damn cables can be installed wrong, leading to damages!

More to the point, their workstation-disguised-as-a-consumer-product cards are so damn power hungry that they require multiple lanes of power in the first place.
I had a quick look at how bad running PhysX on CPUs was and it is outright awful. I think I will save all old still working GPUs I have just in case I want to play something old in the future too.

What CPU and what game?

I've always run PhysX on CPU due to having AMD GPUs for the last 15ish years. And with my current PC which is also an ancient 9 year old, I've had no noticeable performance issues with these games.

try simulate particles of water.
then well talk again.
Running PhysX on the CPU is not a viable option.

Depending on the game and what effects it uses (and probably also the game settings) fps drops from >100 on a 4090 to <15 on a 5090 have already been observed according to some online articles.

Which is not surprising really, since even the latest CPUs can not keep up with GPUs, not even older ones, when it comes to their strengths.
Ah yes, Nvidia. The company selling gaming hardware that makes games run worse.

I fucking hope the AI bubble will burst soon, bringing these assholes to their corporate knees.
I'm a huge fan of Sacred 2 which uses PhysX, not to mention owning a couple of the games mentioned in the 1st post which I've yet to find time to play :(

I'd have though AI would have told nVidia that this was a dumb move!

Quite a lot:-

Personally, I'll be won't be "upgrading" to the 5000 series.

They call it a dream build but...
correct me if i'm wrong but... a top tier build without water cooling.... like ridiculous yea ?

I still can't understand why the market seems to be stuck on these preposterous offerings.... I know, it is still not car worth 40k or more but please.... industry
