Sigh, and on that note the thread has been rep bombed again.

Was planning to do a pretty big GA for Canadian Thanksgiving, but now I'm feeling like I just don't want to deal with the potential mess.

When I do GAs, I follow the 'give and forget' rule. Worrying about who is a scammer/lecher is too much of a headache. And the fact that some forum members feel the need to hijack the thread talking about scammers just gets irritating.

Yeah, that would generally be my approach as well. I don't think I've ever even mentioned the 'scammer' thread in my prior GAs.

The trouble is that the concept I created for the GA was on the Thanksgiving theme, and relied in part on posters saying nice things about other posters. So the design I had in mind (which I thought quite clever when I came up with it) seems particularly susceptible to someone running multiple accounts and just cross-pollinating their own posts, and then pouting when they don't win all the prizes.

At the least I think I have to brainstorm a different GA design before proceeding.

Croxxx tried to avoid scammers too, so it's not like we're forcing our views on him or something.
Also, for me it's incredible that some goggers get annoyed by people reporting scammers more than by scammers grabbing games..

I'm pretty sure it's fresh. Those 'low rateds' had been cleared I think, and as secondary confirmation your rep is down 7 points since last night. ;)


Oh, I do take some steps to limit scammer ease of use. I usually include a join month and/or rep, and give myself some discretion in final awarding but since some of the affected accounts are older (and certainly upvoted) my old techniques are starting to get outdated.
