I haven't kept on eye on this as I mostly tend to get old releases on GOG and new games on Steam, in part because it used to take up to a few days for patches to make there way here.

With Galaxy being around a couple of years now, has this situation improved? Do patches come out same day via Galaxy? (assuming still a delay for the packaged executable patches)

I'm trying to assess whether to use my FIG key for Pillars of Eternity 2 here or on Steam (I'd meant to ask the question before I got my Battletech tech)

Cheers
Depends on developers.
Some games update really quickly, including offline installers.
Some games behaves randomly, sometimes quick, sometimes slow.
Some games just do not update GOG version.

For better or for worse it's totally dependent of the "good will" of the devs; IIRC Obsidian are among the "good" ones when it comes to updates but there are no guarantee.

It depends on the devs, plus a few days after they submit the patch for testing.

My favourite example is Planet nomads which updates at the same time on both Steam and Galaxy, with offline installers available few hours after. Infrastructure for timely updates exists. If you don't mind using Galaxy it only depends on the developer if they are willing to use it, or if they will favour only one platform.
Thanks kbnrylaec, Gersen, Darvond, huan.

Its great to hear that things have certainly improved. Hopefully Obsidian continue to be among the "good" ones (and I hope Larian is too), and maybe Inxile (Wasteland 3 and the new Bards Tale)

Dealing with Galaxy doesn't bother me so thats fine.

To add to the "It's up to the developers" we just had one developer announce that they're pulling their game because they are unable to keep up with the multiple platforms:

I do believe they're a one man development team so keep that in mind when you read that thread.

I was looking into that game and I'm glad to read that this is the case. Thank you.
Obviously your mileage may vary but I've had pretty good luck with it. The most recent being Kingdom Come, which was updated in a very timely manner, including some MAJOR patches and the HD Texture pack.

And this is using standalone / non-Galaxy installers, so if like me you're not into the whole Galaxy thing I think for the most part you're okay.

Again, this is a case by case thing but I've always had a pretty good experience with keeping my games updated when I need them to be.

If you read the whole thread - this wasn't problem with pushing updates. People have been pestering him about Galaxy integration - achievements etc. Which he decided was too demanding to do it for two platforms and one-man team.

Is there a list of games on GOG that haven't been updated for over a year or so?

You can try MaGog, the 3rd party GOG database.

Another database, gogdb.org upgraded itself recently, and the update date for old games are not accurate for now.

Larian and Obsidian are in the top classes of patching. I think inXile was on the ball as well. HBS had a bit of a delay on the Shadowrun games that went beyond GOG testing/packaging delays so I'd say they are a bit more sketchy but they still got to it eventually.

I did read the whole thread. I stand by what I wrote. He's unable to keep up with multiple platforms.

Just as a fyi, I:m wasn't saying that as a bad thing. At least he admitted it unlike some larger publishers who just dump a game here and we never hear from them again.
