timppu: I am unsure how well ScummVM supports Roland MT-32 emulation in those games that support Roland, and how to enable it. I usually opt for DOSBox for my Roland DOS games.
MT-32 emulation works fine with ScummVM. (I don't think that this is the place for a tutorial)

Kobi-K: In cases where the ScummVM version in no longer compatible with DOSBox I think it would be cool if GOG could include the DOSBox version in the 'Extras' section, and maybe people could run them using RetroArch on Raspberry Pi or something.
Sure, that would be cool - I'd call it good service.
But getting 'mad' (in public) about not getting something that was never promised, I'd call that entitlement. GOG releases old games for modern operating systems (mostly Windows though). For original releases (inc. copy protection) -> see archive.org

Impc7r: So is there a way tu 'unpack' all the missing files so you can setup your games from Setup.exe where it has them and run the dat/bat/exe files?
Unless the game includes the CD ISO that it has to mount to make it work, then i'd guess the answer is they are gone.

Though for DOS games, 99% of it was literally copy/extract and then running the setup.exe file before going to the main game. There isn't much you're probably missing.

Though have you first looked in the game folders? 99% of the time people won't look but the setup/config files tend to already be there, you just gotta run Dosbox without it running the batch file to run the game and exit after.
For example I want to play some of these games on Android. Everything works quite fine there, except I have to find the EXE files from somewhere like 'abandonware' which causes either things not running - you can get a SETUP.EXE and nothing happens. While if they come with the GOG version, where they added audio (as a kid I was playing some games in formats like abandonware - no audio no sound), and you get the proper EXE,DAT files, one may get things working than taking the files from possibly another version of teh game.

Oh I remember maybe dosgamesarchive com offers them that way or used to be another place to buy

Impc7r: When paying for a product im expecting to get the game with the files they come originally.
I'd say that your expectation (as related to the GOG Store) is unrealistic.

GOG hasn't promised to "preserve all the original files".

Rather, they've done exactly the opposite (from the GOG About page:

Upgrading classics for present-day. Even if the game is older than you are, we test it thoroughly, fix all the bugs, and apply patches so it runs flawlessly on your next-gen PC and on modern OSs.
While I "feel" for your predicament, that "expectation" isn't going to met at GOG.

It's not about expecting that they would keep them, it is the poor decision that they didn't keep them.

And im not here to rant, just asking if there is a way to unpack them as im not familiar with scumvvvv

GOG doesn't sell games for Android. The fact that you sometimes can (play some games on Android) is a potential bonus, nothing more.

And: ScummVM is also available for Android.

I still prefer the old way of doing things but I can probably try scummv for this particular game

Here is another MINUS

I cannot transfer my SAVE called MALC_001.SAV (the save file with dos) with scumv? NO I cannot, have to start over

What did you use to save that .SAV file and why can't you keep on using it?

The adventure game makes a SAV file which appears as a file in your game folder. The scummv even on Windows, when I save a game SAVED FROM SCUMV, I can see you can load it from the Scummv window but there is no file anywhere of the game saved with DOS. And if I copied the SAV SAVED FROM DOS to the game folder or to the scummvm folder installed from GOG, you cannot see this save in the game or the launcher.

This GOG way just hides everything saves, exe's and enforces its own way negating any other old ways to use a save file
, it's my complaint but I guess I will have to work around

Yes, that adventure game that made the SAV file, you have it right? Why don't you use it to load that same save file? Why do you need the GOG scummvm version? That was my initial question.

The game is without sound and the recent files I added from abandonware the setup does not even start so im trying with the scumm launcher

So you have the original GOG Dosbox version, am I right? You have an issue with sound on that one? Why are you downloading abandonware versions? The old GOG dosbox versions weren't missing files.
So which game are you talking about? Did you check the game specific forum here on GOG? PCGaming wiki? The dosbox website?

So... Windows 10, integrated sound chip I assume. Do you have this sound problem with all (GOG) dosbox games?

You could try this (first google result I came across):
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/no_sound_on_any_dosbox_games_win7_64bit_realtek_digital_output
To add/edit the environment variables: press Start button: type environment ... press Enter.

About getting ScummVM to recognize your old saved games, an option like that exists in ScummVM, I don't know if it's available for all games, but here's how you do it:

Run your game with ScummVM, press Ctrl+F5 for options menu, click on Return to Launcher, then click on Edit Game... and in the Engine tab check the 'Use original save/load screens' option.

I dont have that option in Engine tab, besides the save files from Scumm are also not on files, so I dont see how one can back them up if wiping the folder.

Ya know even modern PC games I play have their save games on files, this 'hide everything' is UNEXPLAINED

At least the game works on Scummv on Android with sound. It can be started over

Now an older RPG game where it is more than halfway through the game.. no way this Scummv cant read saves, that's where I go on with the Dosbox
