I'm not the mobile phone guy. I need it only once a month. But I'm replacing my phone every 2 years with the old phone from one of my family members.

Enebias: When the one I'm using dies. Even today I would be using my still perfectly functional Samsung bought in 2005, if only the battery lasted more than ten minutes (they don't sell that kind of battery anymore, those criminals).
Ha, exactly the same. Bought a Samsung in 2005 and replaced it last year. ;)

ET3D: I replace my phone about twice a year with another phone I'm not completely satisfied with. Not a lot of choice for small smartphones. I hope that the upcoming iPhone 5se is a huge success and convinces phone makers that phablets aren't the only form factor people want.
Ah, yes, size matters. My current MotoX is 'just right', fitting in the pocket and barely noticeable, and easily held in my small-ish hands.
Does this question have a correct answer?

Um, when it stops sending and receiving phone calls? You need to get a new one.

Just replaced the battery from my Nokia 3330, which has done it's time with a high quality non Nokia one for 15€.
Before I had to recharge every two days and now I'm loading it every 2 weeks.

Investment was worth it!
I had my previous phone (Nokia C5-00) for 4-5 years. It's still 100 % functional of course, but I thought I'd see what the smartphone-hype was about, and there are some apps that are nice to have. I bought a Microsoft Lumia 640 in a sale around new year. This will probably last me 20 years :P I charge it once a week, and it's very durable. I've accidentally dropped it so it landed flat on it's screen, and it didn't get a single scratch! Gorilla Glass is amazing! :D

The phone I had before the Nokia C5-00 was a orange and black Nokia. I used it for several years, and stopped using it when some of the buttons almost became impossible to use (had to press them down with lots of force).

Fairfox: I still have my Razr V3. It's shiny.

Yaaaaay!
That was a sexy phone, I still want one.
Ermm...When it's broken. And i do plan to buy a shitty, classic, no touch screen one again. I don't message, i don't feel the need to check my mail on the go, i don't have a facebook/twitter/etc account. I am pretty basic, so most of the stuff in the modern phones is useless to me.
Up until a month ago I was still using my Samsung Captivate that I got in December 2010. Traded up for the wife's Samsung Note 2 because she got a Note 4 a few months prior.

Prior to that had a Palm Centro for I think 3 years. Great phone. And prior to that, a Motorola Razr 3(?) for about 5 years I think.

My mom finally had to replace her Razr because a couple of the buttons stopped working. She was very unhappy about that.

You're talking about the first gen Moto X, I assume. First gen had a 4.7" screen, second had a 5.2" screen, and then there's the Moto X Style (Pure Edition) at 5.7". Like all phones, bigger, bigger, bigger.
I had to replace my previous phone due to the internal memory became too small and I couldn't install any apps or updates. That was too bad because the phone worked perfectly aside from that issue.

My current phone is a Samsung Galaxy S3 and has worked well about 2 years. I'm not gonna replace it until it breaks. I do hope they will invent a smartphone with a screen that is easier to read in direct sunlight. I love to use the GPS in my phone but the screen is really hard to see in sunlight and you can't use in the rain either so yeah.....
I'm trying to decide if "Some Guy Does Something In Grocery Store" thread or this one is more boring.

I think this one wins.
I change it when I need a new one.
since I need to test my mobile apps/games every 3-4 years I need to upgrade my smartphone/tablet.
but this is a new thing... before smartphone I only had 2 phones in 15 years... and now there are many great smartphone that can last more years compared to the old generation of smartphones.
Also I never buy a new model, I just wait one year so that price can decrese a lot...
Also in my country there are few subscriptions plan, and it's always better to just buy a smartphone (also iphone).

Also my smartphone now it's an iPhone 5S... because I love to play some games that are only on app store from apple (like final fantasy 7 and the longest journey)... there are some of these games that are great on mobile.

I don't really care about social, and usually I use a computer if I can to check mail, browser etc... but when computer is not an option it's great to have a small computer in a pocket.

I don't like really large phones... I used to have a galaxy nexus 4.7'' and it was too large.

There are few other smartphones that I like.. I think sony xperia compact is great.

My phone is from 2010. Its keyboard sticks a bit now and then, so lots of aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa when texting, which is what I mostly do because who the hell talks on the phone.
