Which brings to mind another article from not too long ago:

*sigh*, yup, looks like we're going to find out how the Star Wars cash cow gets milked dry.

I'm even going to take a guess how. Even with Star Wars being a rich universe (as mentioned in the article) with numerous possibilities with political intrigue, civil war, bounty hunting etc etc, I'll bet you anything they're going to focus on the Jedi. It's going to be all about the jedi and too much Jedi will kill this franchise. Notice how a lot of the later Star Wars games were about the Jedi?

Of all the recent Star Wars games, how many games did they release where you were a bounty hunter? Or a front line soldier? Or a politician? Or a smuggler? Or a snub fighter pilot like the old games? Now how many of the later games were about light sabers and force powers? Nuff said right?

Star Wars is gonna be all about the light sabers and force powers, people are gong to get tired of it and that's gonna kill the franchise.

Anyone want to bet against me?

Would you rather too much, or none at all?.

Those don't have to be the only options. I, personally, would prefer jedi to exist, but I would also love it if non-jedi were actual characters, instead of being the boring flavorless cattle that they usually end up being. Luke is boring, Han Solo is not. Lack of a good non-force-using character (like Solo) is among the reasons the prequel trilogy didn't grab audiences.

Yeah, I have to agree with you. I mean, if you noticed, the first and last Star Wars game that revolved around a bounty hunter was Star Wars 1313. Even the game itself was still in progress when Disney shut down LucasArts. Quite a shame to be honest.

And to be honest, that's a rotten choice to have (even though it seems to be the choice we're presented with). It's bad enough that once-cultural touchstones in the gaming/geekdom sphere like Madden, CoD and Battlefield (and BattleFront?) are now annualized franchises. And now Star Wars too?

We've seen (in Star Trek) what happens when a franchise is milked so hard it dies, or at the very least, kills its audience with an overabundance of content. There's a possibility we may even be on the cusp of seeing it in superhero movies with the MCU, especially with yet another mega-movie-universe coming to the fore with the DCU.

Either way, Disney is making a good bet here. It lives and dies on the love of its dedicated fanboys and fangirls (who make Apple and Linux zealots seem utterly sane and rational by comparison), and with Star Wars, it knows that even if it were to suffer another Prequel Trilogy-level event, it can still rely on the hard core fans for the profits it needs to keep on going.

If you are referring to jedi then I have to say none at all. I'm actually already starting to get sick of the jedi.

If you are referring to Star Wars itself, then the answer will still be none at all. Consider the following:

Calvin and Hobbes, a cartoon BIll Watterson ended because he felt the cartoon had run it's course. It's a cartoon still fondly remembered by it's fans and is sorely missed. While there was some reoccuring themes like, how much Calvin fears Roslyn, his awkward behavior around Susie, his fantasies about dinosaurs, the story arcs simply weren't rehashes of what came before it.

Now compare this to Jim Davis' Garfield, a cartoon that has already run it's course but still keeps chugging along with the same content that was explored in the 80's and 90's strips. We know how much Garfield loves lasagna, how much he loves to eat everything, how much he likes to kick Odie off the table, how much he likes annoying Jon etc etc. Garfield doesn't these things and says some quip after he does it. The cartoon never explores or does anything new and has gone stale because of it.

Take a guess how this will apply to Star Wars.

No kidding, I was disappointed about that too. If only Lucasarts didn't blunder big time with their The Old Republic MMORPG. The Star Wars: Galaxies mess should have been enough for them...................

well, given the relatively high price disney paid for lukasart they want to quickly see the Return of Investment and no matter how bad the SW films will be (and atm the probability is decently high that the films will be utter flops) they'll see big dollars from the existent army of reallife clones/drones.

and, to be honest, I can't wait for that to happen. I mean, how many iterations of the same crap people are willing to take? same avenger shit (lol captain america? hilarious!), numerous spidermans, star trek/wars shit etc ... the milking of the same shit over and over has to stop imo, but it probably won't because the reallife clones are just too many and are ready to eat pretty much anything you throw on them.

I wouldn't be surprised, but the first of the spin-off movies is Rogue One, which from what they've shown off so far seems awfully low on Jedi. Maybe they'll pull one or two out of their ass and it will be disappointing, but I figure we'll get some decent non-Jedi focused movies inbetween the kick-ass lighsaber shit (I'm actually kinda with you, I really like Dark Forces but I'm not as into Jedi Academy even though it's also pretty good).
Star Wars is getting milked?
O.0

Really man, its expected to make at least a billion dollars when it comes out.

If its good or bad doesn't even factor in.

Apparently you can milk a zombie cow as well then: COD, FIFA, Pro Evo, GT, etc.

going.
We have had 6 movies in almost 30 years. One more end of this year and two spinoffs Rogue One, and a Han Solo movie & Boba Fett movie. Kasdan is only airing his views - i heard somewhere (this Collider on youtube mentioned this) that he is also finished with Star Wars after Force Awakens - and he only did this as friends and family persuaded him to do it. I don't see how his opinions (and article writers) would necessarily be something Disney WOULD do. We MIGHT get more star wars related stuff but i couldnt see it happen as bad as CoD (having said that EA has the rights to product Star Wars related games i think - surely they couldnt screw it up )

That's fine though. Look at 007 and Star Trek as examples. They'll always make movies of that franchise and they'll always be blockbusters. :P
