competitive..... as far as i'm willing to go ( luckily i don't am that dumb anymore )

Normal .. well lets say, i do find the 60 euro which seems to be standard for a lot of games pretty oke, for titles i know i will be spending a lot of hours in, or that i know to be a very good adventure, so.. triple A in general

I belief the most expensive package i own atm is the Warhammer combination with all of its DLC from total war, for most total war titles since rome 2 i spend in general about 120 euro's i guess with DLC

Timboli: I'm not sure I would pay more, as I have so much backlog now that I could probably just go without ... with a few must have rare exceptions.
I just noticed that if I simply bought what I wanted to play right now - regardless if full-price or on sale, it'd probably be cheaper than falling for all those nice offers because "one day I'll play it" ;-)

If course - there is no guarantee that GOG will still be around DRM-free in a year or ten (having learned that the Wallstreet locusts were aiming to make money ruining CDP, and were only stopped because of the GME short-squeeze incident) - so buying "for later" actually might not be the worst of ideas either.
almost never above 20 Euro's unless it's a game that i absolute wanna have.
If I really want one and it's something expansive I can spend a lot of time with, around 30 € (got RDR 2 for 32 used, for instance (on PS4)).
But generally, the max is 15 €... and I have refunded some games on Steam, waited for a better sale price, and bought them again for less. Also had Hob refunded on GOG and bought it several months later when it was cheaper.
Last year I backed Chernobylite, physical edition tier 100USD, they stuffed the package with all sort of goodies then they delivered in the time and terms they promised.

Few days ago they updated the campaign telling us that they were going to put extra effort in the translation which is going to be more accurate and in more languages then initially planned.

In additon they've been forced to pospone the premiere, in the meantime they are creating new content in the form of DLCs but all of that will be included in the game on release for all the backers and early access supporters.

Felt like I had to share that just to say that some devs deserve what they ask for.

The devs are The FArm 51: I came to love these guys and won my everlasting support.
Personally, I only buy games on sale for at least -75%.

I developed this cheapskate attitude after realizing how quickly the price of new games was dropping. I mean why buy a game on release for $60 when I can get the final version (sometimes with DLC included) for only a fraction of that?

There are also way too many games coming out every month, I can't play all of them so why focus on new expensive stuff when there are tons of cheap classics I have yet to discover?

I would say my absolute maximum I'm willing to spend on a game would be 19.99 USD which may not sound like a lot I admit but with games like Deus Ex or Thief at just $1.49 during each sale, I don't feel the need to spend more ;)

i try to play games 2 years in the past this way you almost never suffer bug's video drivers are always good etc.
and you even pay less why because they are 2 years old.... do not even makes sense but that the world we live in.
on top of that you don't need state of the art hardware

Each to their own for sure. It's all about what satisfies us in the end. :)

I guess a part of my mind gets satisfaction from getting more for less, even if some of those more don't turn out so good or never get played. ;)

Indeed, in relation to GOG I try to account for the fact they may not be here tomorrow ... so download bought games immediately and try to keep up with updates ... and the usual few backup drives etc. I even go as far as saving game web pages and keeping them in a sub-folder for that game. I'm not quite anal enough to save all Reviews and Forum pages for each game ... though surely there are many great tidbits in many of them to fix and improve things ... I save the odd one in passing if something stands out.

This is what I learned back in 2015. My collect is rather small considering I have games going back to the 80's. I started buying newer games around 2008 (2 games) but then stopped and came back in 2015 with the "Humble NEOGEO 25th Anniversary Bundle". I wanted and I played every game on that list and I caught the bundle fever for a moment. I was on a few other sites looking at bundles but it was not like the last bundle where I wanted all of the games they had 1 or 2 that I really wanted. I pumped breaks.

I am very happy to see that a lot the new bundles now allow you to claim each game 1 at a time if you like itch.io has which helps keep my library trim and full of the stuff I want to see.

... which is why they tend to have such inflated "regular" prices, to be able to claim such large discounts on sales. Of course, publishers' pricing policies have created this behavior, but once entrenched it's a vicious cycle. Wouldn't be surprised to see "buy now at an amazing 50% launch discount, only $50!" so a year later you'll have "incredible sale, 80% off, only $20!", with $100 as supposedly normal price in between...

As for the rest of what you said, absolutely.

I've bought several DRM-Free games at Humble now, gotten a bunch of free ones as well, both as direct downloads and or with a Steam key. Hell I even bought a couple of Total War games for a few dollars, that no doubt have DRM ... certainly I only got the Steam Keys.

I had on many occasions pondered buying a Bundle subscription, but just cannot get past the DRM that most of the games will be, so in the end I made a firm NO decision, and just ignore all emails etc now for Bundles. It's not like I am lacking when it comes to games.

Same. I do go to their DRM FREE store and add a few games there to my watch list on isthereanydeal but they have to be at a certain price. itch.io seems to be my go to store for the last 2 years. GOG is still good but when I have issues I can msg the devs directly on itch.io and they respond super fast.

Good to know, but I have been suffering from Itch.io burnout for a good while now ... ever since I got a ton of games from them for that Black Lives Matter appeal. I've still not processed most of what I got access to, let alone downloaded more than about 100 out of the thousands.

I used to visit their shore regularly, but are reluctant to add more without processing what I already have ... so I keep putting off a visit.

I always found the store and its abundance of games overwhelming anyway, especially as a high percentage is pretty crappy ... give me the sanity of GOG any day ... or Humble, though I only check out the DRM-Free stuff there.
I think I put 100 USD on the chaos reborn kickstarter, but I can't stand that game. No issues, its by Julian Gollop. I avoided xcom 2012 until I saw some supportive post by Julian.

Spent 50 USD on Elite Dangerous crowd funding but still haven't spent more than 15 minutes on that game. Bought the season pass last year but still ain't played it. Still stuck at the tutorial. But hey, I still have fond memories of Elite on 128k spectrum.

If its a franchise I love, I have little issues. If there was one way to pay for the 999 hours I spent on fallout 4 to reflect the time I spend on that game, or 1500 hours on warband..... Barely did more than 20 hours on bannerlord but I'm not complaining. Just waiting for the mods....
Kudos to the OP very good thread! Honestly if it's a single player game, I'll usually wait until it hits a significant discount. The reason being is that the game experience isn't going to go anywhere plus the game will be much more polished and have added dlc. Multiplayer games: I only play the free to plays with hard and soft currency like Warframe and Path of Exile. It's easier to get other people into those games (and you can party up with each other) the gaming experience is complete without having to pay for anything. Those games tend to get superior bug crushing, brand new content, and support. With all that being said if the game is exceptional I am willing to pay good money. I pre ordered Steel Battalion because the controller was basically a mech simulator (in the vein of the old battletech centers)
