I have an internal DWD-RW. I don't use it much but when you suddenly need one for whatever reason it's nice to have.

e.g. I decided one day to replay my old copy of Heretic II - couldn't do that on a whim without a drive. That game even needs the disc in to play (although it's happy with a clone via Daemon Tools so I was able to put the real disc away).

I just finished my build. As I'm putting all the my boxes together - getting ready to assemble - I noticed I neglected the optical drive. It was no biggie as I didn't need it at the time. However, that day I got myself a read/write blu-ray drive. Why? I've got a shit ton of CD/DVD media.

Thankfully my OS's are on bootable thumb drives to make life easier. I doubt I have time to rip my media to something else. Once drives start to fade out, I'll likely pick up some extras for when my current drives fail.

However, I just got the one drive. My other build has two drives. I love that machine and will keep it.

I still do, although I almost never use it. Last time was to listen to a music CD.

Yep, got several, though not used them in years. I spent a few months some years back imaging all discs, ripping all music and dvds so it's all on hdd now. Is useful to have one lying around though just in case.

I have quite lot of games on DVDs, even on CDs. Ok, I guess "a lot" is relative, some people probably have thousands, but still, and I have no intention of getting rid of my collection. It's a connection to what I consider a better time for gaming, before clients, social features, microtransactions and all that garbage. And I still sometimes buy old games on discs. GOG doesn't have eveyrthing, and it looks like some things it may never have.

External for my main laptop. Need to rip a crapload of CDs one of these days...

I think we have an older laptop with DVD. Also have a few work PCs with DVD drives, in case customers want to upgrade from DOS 6.22 to Win98SE.

I have an external drive for my Mac for the occasional TV show or movie I borrow from my local library. My Winbox has an built-in one that never sees any use.

I do not have an optical drive in my desktop, my work desktop, my wife's Chromebook, or either of our phones. I don't miss 'em, neither.

The internal DVD-RW drive in my laptop is broken, which reminds me again that I am supposed to take it out and replace with a HDD tray (so that I can add a third hard drive into the laptop, whee!).

I do have a cheapo external USB DVD-RW for it though, I use it rarely but I did e.g. install Dungeon Siege 2 with it some months ago, and ripped my Robocop DVD into a video file so that I will never have to use that DVD ever again in order to watch Robocop.

I also have a DVD-R drive in my old retro desktop PC, I use it if I feel like installing and playing some older PC retail game.

My PC has a DVD drive that I probably have never used.

Still have an internal LG DVD burner. Rarely used except for ripping audio CDs.

But my best ever optical drives are one Sony DVD combo on a IDE-ATA interface. That one can read heavily scratched discs and it's oh so quiet.
