I boycott steam mainly because the DRM benefits no one. It doesn't prevent piracy, and so it just makes the DRM even more annoying.

I just wanted to post this as a sort of poll to see how many people actually go as far as boycotting Steam games. It'd have to be a damn good game for me to consider buying a Steam exclusive.

I won't touch a game from Steam. When Lucasarts pulls their heads out of their arses and releases their classic games here I will instantly support them. Until then I won't touch their, or any other publisher's, Steam DRM-ed releases.

Nope, nothing but positive experiences with them. Although they're my third choice, after GOG and Gamersgate.

No but I don't purchase many games on there since I either prefer getting retail copies of certain games or getting them from a different digital distribution site i.e. GOG or Dotemu.

I still play what I bought there because I don't feel like buying them again, but I won't make another purchase from them.

If I really cared about the "morality" of what games I buy, I wouldn't have purchased Arcanum here on GOG, because some of the money went to Activision, who were responsible for closing Troika down.

Same goes for EA and Origin Systems and Bullfrog

I mean, if I have the option between buying on steam and DRM-free, I pick DRM free, but if the game is good I couldn't really care too much.

My philosophy is any game tied to a client is severely devalued to me. So, while I don't avoid buying games on Steam (or Origin), I won't pay more than 5 bucks for it (with very, very few exceptions going as high as 10, but no higher). So games that are released that require Steam (or Origin) right out of the gate are not purchased by me until they drop to 5 bucks in a sale.

But I'll opt for a DRM-free version over Steam any day of the year, of course.

I'm in the same boat too in that decision. Stopped buying a year ago and that is not going to change.

Edit: Okay I am going to admit that I've only bought a game during their sales either in summer or during the holiday season. But, that's only when the game so very, very low in value that I could actually live with the purchase. So pretty much what Coelocanth said.

I prefer to buy from gog when I can, but I don't really avoid Steam.
I've had mostly small issues with steam, related to regions and languages being enforced since I spend most of my time in non-English areas. Small issues probably very few people have so not much effort is spent solving them, but very annoying.
I find steam overpriced at times though, great example being Bethesda games which are often nearly twice as much on Steam as on amazon. Not that I'd buy them anyway though :p

For the most part yes and no.

I don't hate Valve since I haven't had a bad experience with them and I enjoy their games, however I don't really agree with what Steam does to the user and how Valve is trying to get the upper hand on digital distribution. I'll admit that I got Black Mesa and still have Steam on my computer in offline mode, however I'm not going to buy games that force Steam.

If a DRM-Free copy of a game comes out I certainly would buy it.

I find it hard to boycott things for some great general ideal. So I don't boycott steam, though it's not my preferred digital store.

Only Steam game I ever played was Portal, and that was free, so yes. Never bought a DRMed game in my entire life - at least to my knowledge.
