I boycott Steam completely. Never touched anything of them, I even remember it becoming a Thing back then, and after my initial Curiosity had faded, I just shrugged it off. I didn't see any Kind of Need for such a Thing, at all. It felt like it was going to take away all the Control I like to have about my Games back then, little did I know how much bigger the potential Issues would become when the Gaming Industry seemingly decided to stop developing Games for anything else, especially Multiplayer Games. I never had a Console, and because of similar Reasons, I never got Steam.

Steam got rid of my Fun in going into Game Stores. No matter what you find, once you turn that Box around, on the Back, it always says STEAM REQUIRED. No. Steam is NOT SUPPOSED to be required if you want to be a PC Gamer. That's just sick.

I actually don't mind the Service too much. I like the Idea of the additional Services it offers, but that's not nearly enough to tie all your thousands worth of Games to it. The Thought of your complete Library someday going POOF, because of whatever, however unlikely it may be, is horrifying to me. Even if it may or may not be gone forever, being unable to play whenever I want to play decause of some Client Program bossing me around feels like such an upside-down World.

I buy GoG, HumbleBundle DRM-Free and Desura ONLY. No Compromises. Ever.

I don't have a Steam account. And I probably never will.

Can't agree with the philosophy behind it - it does not fit what I expect to see in a digital distribution platform at all. For now, GOG comes closest to what I'd like to see.

Again, this is just my point of view. So yes, you could say I boycott Steam... though I simply don't consider it a valid option for me at this point. There's no spite involved.

ALL things being equal I will buy games on GOG.
But, I don't have a problem with steam. If I don't see
a game being released here anytime soon, X-com for example and I
want it, I will purchase on Steam.

Since this thread was necroed, I'll post my opinion.

I don't actively boycott steam, nor do I have a problem with people who prefer it. My reason for not using it is because of my past of not having a reliable internet connection (so yeah, there is a little paranoia in my thinking there), so I prefer anything that would allow me to do things offline (reliably!), including installing a game.

At the time when Steam first launched, I was still relying on dial-up, and it didn't make any sense to me to have to download and install a program, just to download and install (and use?) another program. The idea of downloading an entire game at the time was just... well... no.

We're still on DUN when I got my ATi 9700XT, which was bundled with HL2.
I took my computer into work to use their 512k fat pipe to download it.

I don't have a steam account, don't plan on getting one. I don't feel comfortable knowing I don't own the games I buy. I get really attached to my favourite games and get paranoid of losing them so much that I generally make them portable with mods and everything attached and ensure that they work on linux in case I ever have to switch from windows 7.
So yeahh, steam isn't very appealing to me. I like to know my games are safe on a harddisk somewhere, ready to plug and play on (almost) any machine.

I boycott Steam games now with a burning hot passion. Like hell I'd activate a Steam code today, or accept a Steam gift. Steam as a service is pretty much forced on everyone is what makes it unlikable, but hey, the cult of Valve said its likable and that I'm no PC gamer!

The mandatory Steam client is my reason. It's so bad in everything. How it looks, how it works, how messy and sometimes buggy it is. Not even the store itself is pleasant to use, I don't find anything there. It's just not a program that I want to have on my system.

I haven't seen any good gaming client, including GOG Galaxy. They're all bad. I prefer to keep an archive of installers or application bundles, which rules out Steam and clearly favours GOG.

I get that a lot too from Steam fanboys who refuse to comprehend this:
All Steam games are PC games, but not all PC games are Steam games.

I've been playing PC games long before Valve ever existed: since the good old Dos days. So there.

I wouldn't say that I boycott them, but I would rather go any other way but Steam to buy something. Only other thing I use Steam for is TF2.

Honestly I boycott Steam and also Paradox interactive myself... Unless that is the games are like majorly on sale on steam and I cant find them here IE 75-95% off. I have alot of games already and I keep being told the game I am making needs to be on steam among other places. I dislike that if your game flops or is successful is how much the coders like your game and feature it as a new game.

Myself, i would rather have hard copies on DVD/CDs and this 3d crap that takes up most of the space(check and youll see alot of graphics take up over 55% of data needed for games on ram) is why steam is so famous. When we get back to the culture of actually playing games without 3d graphics, we can expect steam and other platforms that sell because of 3d graphic needs being gone or lose alot of appeal to developers.

Now something I would like to see from GOG that steam has is the concept area. NOT all spam and crap like I had seen on steams, but actual people that can talk about their games and be able to state its an idea at this time/prototype/alpha/beta/etc it would make for a more interesting forum and even then people could petition the creators to put it on GOG.
