I never bought or got any game from steam.. I made a mistake once buying boxed game dawn of war 2 but didn't know I needed steam installed. I don't support any form of drm. I'll crack it if it has it.

For gog I support it now. But I hope this galaxy thing doesn't become a requirement like stardock did years ago with something similar.
I do.
If I can buy the game elsewhere I do.
I proactively approach publishers of games I'm interested in to find non-steam versions.

there are games I've not bought because they're bound to steam.

Unfortunately there are games that either I or my family really want, then there is little choice and I hate it.
I have avoided it like the plague! It has almost caught me a time or two when I was looking at a retail game and didn't realize at first that you had to use steam for it (most recently Elder Scrolls Collection) but I just refuse to do it. I am actually happier buying console games (although sometimes they rub me the wrong way too), which is why until I joined GOG my PC game purchases were basically non existent.
Its easy to boycott steam - i just remember i sank a decent amount of money on battleforge (online card strategy multiplayer game - which was amazing to play and had great cards/units) and its now gone!!! without a trace..

And in steam - you dont own games, you just have them for a while..
I stopped buying games on Steam, only games I will own on Steam will be retail ones that activate on Steam only....
I am old fashioned I love to have access to my products without borders simple, I do get a game here and there on steam but it is mainly for when I play with friends but only get them when it is on sale not full price.

10 years and counting. If that's how you describe 'a while'.

InfraSuperman: That seems to be an issue with Galaxy at the moment. Regular downloads through the browser or the GOG Downloader are generally pretty fast.

Dogishappy: Thanks!
Lots of reports that Galaxy is really slow right now. The regular GOG Downloader is at it's usual speed though, or there are several community downloaders that work very well.
Haven't made a Steam nor an Origin account yet. Although with the way games are released, I've been missing out on many good ones.

Pheace: Lack of self control is a valid reason to dislike Steam ^^

ktchong: I also have the Steam client app installed on my Android phone. It's too easy to just check into the app regularly, and just tap on the "buy" button when I see something I remotely like is 75% off. That is why I keep telling GOG to put out an app on Android and iPhone. GOG has no idea how a mobile app would facilitate people to buy so many more games from them. I actually bought a lot of those games I didn't remember buying on my Android phone.

A nice thing about the Steam mobile app is that it lets me quickly check into my "Wish List", with the current prices nicely displayed beside the items in the list. When I see an item on the Wish List has a sales, like 75% off or more, I immediately buy it. I didn't realize I had already bought so many games from Steam through the mobile app.

So I suppose I have not been doing a good job of "avoiding" buying from Steam after all.
I don't buy from steam. third party game sales are not allowed. I'll pass. DRM-free is the future.
I used to be a big supporter of Steam

Until my account got stolen from me by another user due to a hole in their Password reset system that happened this July.

And here I am, five weeks later still waiting on some kind of response from their "customer support" to return the account I lost because of their inability to notice and fix an obvious password reset error.

Oh, and the Steam Community loves vitcim blaming. They seem to think the only reason you get hijacked is because you're a 12 year old kid who goes to phishing websites. That's apparently more plausible then actually admitting that Valve makes mistakes to that community of white knights.

It's also worth pointing out that the same thing happened to a DOTA 2 pro player that happened to me. He got his account back in one day. Guess I know where their priorities are now

A lot of Steam accounts are there solely for the purpose of dumping keys from bundles.
Others who have 2500 games on their account literally glance at their "milestones" on a daily basis. These dudes won't play a tiny bit of their games while living on earth.

I find GOG accounts to be much more genuine, hard earned. An example? A guy I know personally who has 200+ titles in here and has very few on steam. He told me that "Steam has a lot of flashy propaganda, whilst GOG is surely a lot more about gaming".
I don't boycott Steam. I'm simply not bothering anymore about them. Actually it has more to do about how unreadable their catalogue is, and the fact that GOG upped their game ( even if there are things I don't like in the way GOG evolves, one cannot deny that the offer is widening and deepening ) than about Steamworks.

That's really just stereotyping. I know collectors on Steam with 2500+ games who I'd bet play more games than most GOG users. I also know that a lot of people played hundreds (or more) of hours of Skyrim and other Steam titles. On the other hand, I'm sure that a lot of GOG users collect old games for old times sake and hardly get to play them.

I assume that there are a lot more serious gamers (or hardcore, or whatever you want to call people who play a lot of hours) on Steam than on GOG. Not averages, just absolute numbers.
