I've been on GOG for 5 years now.Last game i bought on steam was about 4 years ago,last played a game there 3 years ago.I just emailed them a couple of weeks ago and pulled the plug on my steam account.Never again,never again

I'm keep my usage of Valve and Bethesda's product to an absolute minimum.

I am not going to buy games on Steam or use Steam unless if it is absolutely necessary. I will use alternatives like GOG, GMG, Humble Bundle, Amazon and Origin. I am not just going to rely on Steam sales and instead will use sites like IsThereAnyDeal.com to check out deals of games from everywhere. I also plan to stop using Steam as a library and will use something like Razer Cortex from Razer. Its free and it allows you to use it as a library regardless of where you buy your games from.

As for Bethesda, I will only buy their games when they are at bargain bin prices. I am not going to be hooked onto the IPs of one single developer to the point of me buying their games despite their crappy practices.

So yes, I am going to boycott Steam as much as I possibly can and spend the bare minimum for Bethesda games. I do not play multiplayer games that much anymore so I do not have to worry about using Valve's servers.

After all, money talks.

I have a Steam account but I've barely used it; I wanted to test what the system was like and the only games I ever played were one or two free-to-play ones that I never spent any money on.

I have made a point to never give Valve any money. My uncle got stung unfortunately, because he bought a boxed copy of a game that required Steam to play.

I've a Steam account since 2004 (HL2), I've bought many games, hundreds of games, now I won't buy anymore in the Steam Store and anything new I'll buy it from GOG (or where I can find it DRM free).

If a game requires Steam, simply I won't buy it, I've lived without it for years... I can live without it for many others.

Hard to avoid really. Steam has access to almost everything, so it’s very difficult to get a complete gaming experience by boycotting it outright. Steam has an effective monopoly on multiplayer gaming, Triple A games, even boxed retail which these days comes with nothing more than a DVD and activation code. Before using GoG I used to actively avoid Steam and seek out the few remaining boxes which weren't under its dominion. As the years went by and these boxes grew scarcer, and I watched Steam’s influence increase while everyone around me was just enjoying their games, I realized I had driven myself out of my own hobby.

Then GoG descended from the heavens and told me I didn't have to stop being my lovable uncompromising self.. :P

I bought 1 Steam game (dislike the fact that the Steam requirement wasn't listed at the time when I bought it) back in 2010 & have not bought anything else that requires it since

I prefer to look at it from the perspective that those developers who create Steam exclusives... are boycotting me.

I have redeemed codes from Humble Bundle and a couple of kickstarters on Steam. Then there's the few freebies and a couple of gifts. I wouldn't buy retail that says Steam in the back, that's pointless. I mostly use Steam for convenience, achievements and to keep in touch with a friend who lives in TF2.

While I've only bought bundles with DRM-free downloads, some of them have come with extra Steam-only keys that I have also redeemed. On Steam itself I haven't spent any money, I don't even have a wallet.

I randomly got some valuable gear on Team Fortress 2 that I traded for a premium upgrade. I suppose I could in similar manner consider earning some play money and spend it on some games, but I'm bored with TF2 already, so probably won't. Had they recently made life hard for old accounts too that haven't spent a $5, I guess I could have gotten some game listed on this thread to get around it.

I dont have any problem with Steam.

I have over 300 games there and i prefer to buy games there.

That's why Valve will win this fight...

At least, I won't be part of they victory.

You told a nice and quite sad story about your Steam experience, and while I didn't spend much time on Steam forums during the very little time I used Steam, indeed many other forumers were annoyed by Steam moderators' behaviour, especially the "almighty mod's attitude".

Some GOG forums' threads can be too passionate sometimes (I have to admit that I may be involved), but these ones are mostly about DRM, philosophy, ethics, and so on.

Boycott? That's just silly. I use multiple gaming platforms from Origin to Steam, no need to boycott anything since you'll just miss out some great games.
