dtgreene: Thing is, color contrast issues don't actually affect screen readers. In fact, a screen reader might even be able to pick up something like white text on a white background, depending on how the screen reader works.
This is a separate issue. If you go on YouTube and look for videos posted by blind people that play games, you should find one somewhere about the Steam website itself. The issue here is that there's a ton of images with no ALT text. Because there's no ALT text, there's nothing for the screen reader to read when you see a large pile of images on the home page. This is what I was referring to.

dtgreene: Also worth noting that the monitor/TV being used can also have an effect.
It's not my computer that is the issue. I have access to other humans that are not color-blind that are able to look at the same monitor screen as myself, only they see the blue text that for me is just blending into the background. I think that most people are familiar with red-green color-blindness, but there are other types.

I mean, I get it that we're supposed to worship Steam as the one true website for purchasing games. The issue still remains that if I'm going to give a website my money, I should not require a second person to help me navigate it.
I stopped buying games from Steam since I am here, two years already, still play the games I have there and many F2P games, but never spend a dollar there.
Always have, always will.
Ive started to prefer the sub-services over Steam. Wasnt Sony supposed to release the game pass rival this Summer.

Should Steam try Pay Per Hour business model if sub services takes over? Kid buys 3000 hour and he can play every game as it runs off. Valve takes 10% of each hour etc.

paladin181: It's not unnecessary to many players though. It easily facilitates on-line multiplayer, it allows sharing of statuses and social features such as achievements, screenshots and reviews and comments easily. While these things may not appeal to you, they do appeal to a LARGE contingent of gamers, and in fact are expected by many younger gamers today.
If you need these features, more power to you, I won't complain if you find joy in them, etc. But since I barely ever use the "Facebook" side of steam's community, don't need online multiplayer all that much (and if I do I'm willing to install a client so I'm flexible there), and don't care much for achievements, why am I then still forced to have the client on hand?

I'm not super into GOG Galaxy, but the biggest reason I like it is that either I truly want it or I don't. If I want achievements, online multiplayer, time tracking, leaderboards, all that jazz, it's here. If I don't feel like using a client, it's not here. For some reason, this is a luxury that only Galaxy provides, and not a basic feature.

I expect my things to just work. Achievements is yes, it's a nice bonus feature, but not one I'm willing to kill for.
I don't boycott the platform, I just don't buy through it. My account never had a payment method attached to it at any point, yet I have a 100+ games on Steam. How? Retail boxes that required registration and free games (either as a bonus with magazines or giveaways).

Retail boxes are the one scenario I am willing to accept. I have something physical as a proof of purchase. The only way I am ever buying digital only is DRM-free.

I still remember the first two games I bought that required Steam activation. It was The Ball and Aliens vs. Predator, both from 2010. I initially had no idea what this Steam thing was and had no idea why the games weren't working like every single one I had bought before (e.g. install and play). Thought I got scammed at first. I actually gave up at first and only tried playing the games again some months later, after learning about the whole Steam thing. Unfortunately, it was only the start....

PookaMustard: I still hate Steam. It's a piece of unnecessary bloatware that has no business being in 2022.
Not sure if being in 2022 has anything to do with bloatware. Sure most laptops and phones ten years ago had to be debloated to hell and back, but nowadays we're much more sophisticated, bloat come included in the Operating System itself and most our favorite programs. Even games :)
I used to avoid Steam and waited for games to appear to on GOG, but now I have a rule where I come to GOG and check their store page. If there is a porn game on the first page, I just switch to Steam.

Needles to say that since the porn deluge that started on GOG since the end of last year, I haven't bought a single game on GOG. Currently, I basically use GOG as a curation filter and buy games on Steam.

Ridiculous and also pathetic.
I have never had a Steam account. GOG's devolution has reached the point where I can see myself reconsidering that principle.

Why? Because I am not some sexless old fart masturbating on drawings of prepubescent girls?
If a game works better and has more content on Steam, then I'll buy it on Steam. Likewise for GoG.
It depends on the game, for example I got the modern Fallout games on GoG because they're better, (supposedly), optimized for modern systems. But a game like Dragon's Dogma got a later update that the GoG version never got, so I went for the Steam version.
Whoever gives me a better experience and less headaches will be the one I choose. But I do prefer the option of a DRM-free release if the game on both stores is basically the same.
Companies will often take advantage of consumers, so we as consumers, have to inform yourselves and make the best decision based on the info we have.
As Becket said it's nothing personal, it's just good business.

The average age of the users in this forum is somewhere between 30 and 50 years. You should be old enough to simply ignore these games. Otherwise, you are acting like a 5-year old or you are just imbecile. I don't like these games and I just ignore them. I also don't hang around in the release threads and tell the people what they should play or not. I don't care what other people here are playing.

Yet you are such a grown man to reply to my post with your own imbecile post.
Considering that you created an account around the time GoG started the porn flood and that you stalk my replys in porn game threads, I think we can safely assume that the "I don't like these games" is kind of a lie.

Steam offers an option to filter these games and the store doesn't treat me like I'm some kind of retarded incel.
Steam has a problem of being filled with with truckloads of garbage games. That is why I use GoG as a curation filter.
I reply to porn release threads because GoG is not making a distinction between porn releases and normal releases so you don't know what you gonna get when you click on a release announcement.

So your "Ridiculous and also pathetic" is basically just a result of a setup GoG created.

First of all, I don't stalk your posts. You are really not that important enough. LOL!

I have just recognized your name because you are whining very often in specific threads with the keywords "porn", "GOG", "Steam". I really don't understand people like you in this forum. These people have certain "serious" issues with GOG but they simply can't move on. They are constantly visiting this forum, targeting specific threads, and are repeating their texts over and over again. I already know what you have written in this thread here, because I have noticed it multiple times in others threads. I don't understand this behavior. It's bullshit. It is a waste of time, especially for yourself who are constantly repeating the same texts over and over again. It is so worse that you can add to the keywords above "bombardier". Think about this: "porn", "GOG", "Steam", "bombardier".

If you don't like it here then just move on. Leave and/or delete your account. Go to a place which makes you happy.
