Timboli: Oh well, at least I tried ... but blinkers are blinkers.

I'm alright Jack mentality .... the rest of you are just imagining things.

Here, borrow my rose colored glasses ... then you can see things my way ... and the world will live in the perfect harmony of servitude.

Jeez, give us a break.
Exactly why I gave up with them years ago. They don`t care and one day when it happens to them, no one will care for them.

GR00T: I got Gears of War 4 as a bonus code with a video card. It was a 76 GB download.

*edit* Corrected the game number

misteryo: I have that, too! A gift from a forum member here.

I have a 125 GB SSD on which I keep my OS and user files and browsers and such. But I have a 1 TB HDD that I keep all my games on. (It's only a 7200 rpm, but I did extensive testing and wasnt't impressed enough with loading time gains to load any games onto the SSD.)

But, when I acquired the game a year or so ago, games from the Windows store had a bug. They would only download and install onto the C: drive. Didn't matter that you were given the option to choose another drive, the download and install would only succeed on the C: drive. And I couldn't fit the game on my 50 GB of free space on my SSD!

Sometime later they fixed this bug. I would check every month or so. Finally, in the not-too-distant past, it was fixed and I was able to download and install onto my HDD, where it now takes up approximately 12.5% of my drive space.

Sheesh!

Good thing it's a fun game. And I have a good controller to play it with.
Yeah, I went through the same thing. Had to DL it twice to get it onto the game drive (my OS drive is only 250GB)
I fail to see why we even need a client ( where's my damn box with instructions ? ),okay Steam's big advantage is for early access and Kickstarter games, however my opion on these is, Kickstarter games are usually found by fans eg Phoenix Point even BattleTech started as Kickstarter.... Police 1013 etc

As for EA half of it ends in disaster with no safegaurds in place for purchasers when the game goes way off track Bugbear I'm looking at you, tyre models don't matter to me
I don't buy games on Steam because of their inability to control, moderate or manage their members. Sure, there are millions of people with Steam accounts, but you think they could do something about all the Neo-Nazis and other hate groups. They also have terrible customer service.

Why would anyone boycott Steam? Im not a loyal fan of them by any means but ive found some really good deals through Steam and being a casual PC gamer/hardcore console gamer Ive never once had any issues with them. so why would anyone boycott them??? They hurt your feelings or you get banned for cheating? Seen soooo many people complaining they dont cheat and got an unjust ban and thats a load of tripe.

Dependency on a client.
Horrible software and storepage.
Every single feature is designed to psychologically hook you on their service.

Those would be the big ones off the top of my head.

They have Offline Mode for a reason, so that counters the dependency on a client. All I have to do is install the game and set it to Offline Mode and BAM I can play the game with no issues whatsoever. You dont have to be online except for online games. Horrible Software and storepage...I find that amusing as the storepage itself is kinda like GoGs. Horrible software, never had any issues. Dude seriously? Their features are designed to pyschologically hook you???Games are designed to pyschologically hook you on their services. They sell games, nothing pyschological about that. Thats like saying meth is designed to hook you. Seriously. Those are some paper-think arguments. Im looking for real honest reasons not some paper crap.

I would say that the worst thing about Steam is having to wade through 5,000 shovelware games in order to find one worth buying. I've found searching for games I am interested in to be much easier and streamlined here on GOG.

I wrote dependency on a client, not dependency to run the client online.

Well, yeah, I don't take meth, either.

well that's because unlike Steam which has gone for the app store route of letting just about anything and everything on so long as they pay the fee was better for them finacially, GOG while their curation methods are wtf at times(to be fair Steam's was as bad if not worse back when they were curating the store) like initally rejecting Cat Lady till user backlash made them change their minds, rejecting the Macventure games, etc. turthfully though questionable curation is far better then no curation at all.
Every time I can.
Boycott is a bit of a strong word.

If both GOG & Steam sell it, it's really hard for me to pick Steam. As far as goodies / DLC (particularly OSTs), that may be one of the few things that sways my interest, but by then, I'll usually just buy the GOG version & the soundtrack separately, elsewhere. If GOG offers the extra content as well (with or without an additional fee), I'll usually insta-buy it if I have the cash.

The only time I really buy on Steam is when there's a massive sale - we're talking like 90%. Mostly because I'm impatient for GOG's next sale.

I don't like DRM either, & there's a case to be made for supporting non-DRM, but mostly, I'm just paranoid that I'll get hacked or my internet will get worse & I lose all my Steam licenses. So, GOG it is.
No never, I have been using Steam since it started, never had a problem. I have 1,320 games and 456 Dlc .
That being said it's a long time since I bought a full price release on there, most I have came from a multitude of bundles that I got.

I have nearly 200 games here on gog too. :)

Incorrect and I`m getting sick of the amount of people I`ve had to tell this to. It`s like the gender wage gap myth that just won`t die.

Steam lets you go oflline if you still remain connected on the net . Now if you pull the ethernet out or switch off the net, that`s when your troubles will begin. Sometimes you might get a day or two no problems. Most of the time Steam will refuse to allow you to play the game you bought.

Even if, by a miracle, it lets you play truly Offline, it isn`t long before it`ll put its hand up to your face and won`t let you play. If you have no internet or lose it, you will lose the game you paid for in no time at all.

You have to always reconnect frequently making it almost literally an Online all the time DRM. It treats genuine consumers worse than criminals and they get away with it because people like you let them, standing in the way of progress.

This gets me too.
Do you know what is stopping Valve from removing or limiting Offline mode.

Absolutely nothing.

Winstore only allows 1 machine to be offline, Valve could replicate that in a heart beat.

Now I have set up a machine in offline mode and then copied the entire steam install directory to a different machine and it kept working in offline mode, but I've not believe for one second it would always work and would work in the future.

I've had VAlve pulled the rug from under me before, they control your games and can do it any time they want.
