I think I have spend over 10 hours in Chapter 2 now.
The backtracking is getting really annoying.

Anyone has an idea for how much more I have to go?
Right now I collected books after bailing a dwarf out.

(P.S. The Witcher 1 despite it flaws is an amazing game and I have enjoyed it a lot so far)
(Going to play them in order)
I don't know how long the chapter is but I completed the game in 49 hours, did play the dice poker a lot though and might have skipped a few side quests. Chapter 2 is possibly the longest one in the game and I'm guessing it's around 15 hours. If you are getting annoyed it might be a good idea to take a break from the game for a few days.
I enjoyed every minute of the game, and Chapter didn't feel all that long, even though it is the longest. I saw many other people complain and drop the first game because of chapter II, while this is the longest chapter, the next ones are shorter and far more interesting. Just do it, please. It's worth it.
love this game. what a game. what a sendoff for the Aurora engine. how dare people use a term like janky in connection with the game.

great game. and you know what? the end fight went right. major props to every developer that gets the end fight right.

the better a game is the less I generally replay it. but whereas in this rpg you're geralt and not you it kind of makes me warm up to the idea of playing it again. it doesn't replace the PC but it's a nice change of pace. great game.
One playthrough usually takes ~80-90 hours for me. It didn't even cross my mind that might be too long..
Wait, so the first Witcher isn't just a bunch of hacking and slicing. Hmmm, maybe I should give it another shot.

Has there ever been a reliable fix for the not being able to change the settings problem?
yeah that chapter drags on. It's a bit weird though because after a while Vizima starts to feel like home and when the chapter ends it doesn't even matter that the next chapter is in vizima too. So hang in there.
Sorry for my late reply but thanks to everyone who replied :)

Yes you really do need to give it another shot. It's a classic man. Some damn fine story telling. The atmosphere is really great throughout the whole game too.

You have really bad luck with games I think. lol I've played The Witcher on four different machines and have never encountered that problem. The only thing I get is some minor micro stutter occasionally. It's strange, sometimes I fire up the game and it's there and other times it's not. Sometimes just restarting the game a couple of times fixes it for that play session.

Hopefully google can help you. Give it another try.

Edit: And to the op, keep on pushing, like the others say chapter 2 is the longest. But it's also one of my favorite chapters too. Some people really don't like the swamp location but I do. And you get to spend a lot of time in the swamp in chapter 2. Chapter 3 is my least favorite. But saying least favorite , does not make it bad, it's still a favorite, just not as much as the other ones. lol There is a lot of back and forth for quests in all the chapters though really. I don't mind in this game though because the dialog is so interesting.

I'm not the only one to gave it, but I've always had trouble getting a solid answer from this thread:

I don't have that problem but I do have a problem where bodies are invincible.
So there are like floating eyes and teeth everywhere.
I just have to restart it until it goes away (like 3-5 times)

I think you can - if you don't own it already - get it from a summer sale or some other sale for a dollar or two. Just check out if it works, no big loss if it doesn't?

Never had any problems, but I played with Win8.1 + Nvidia 860M + 64bit
For me - the first one was way better than the sequel. And I also could say W2 was a good game.

Or ask me, I think I still have a GOG copy lying around somewhere.

I've had it for a couple of years, played it a few times, but couldn't get into it. W2 is WAY to big for my system not to mention it would take two months of my allotted bandwidth just to download the damn thing. :P

ooh...
Well I had problem getting into it - I played most of the tutorial, gave up, forgot the game for about 6 months...
It really becomes... well... don't want to spoil anything... but if you haven't finished the first two chapters, you haven't seen much of it.
But okay, I'll stop pestering you about it now ;)
