Yes it encouraged me to dabble in many things. Drawing, messing around in Photoshop, programming, writing, music, etc. In many ways it has served me as a catalyst for independently learning new things.

It changed my life in that it helped me get through my depression issues, by distracting my mind away from negative and self-destructive thinking patterns. You need to find things in life that are fun and hang on to them.

Games, together with books, have also been a major source of inspiration to me as a hobby artist. I sometimes come across things in a game - characters or environments - that I want to expand upon and make my own abstract or psychadelic interpretation of. I find that older games are more inspirational to me than modern ones. Maybe because the graphical limitations forces your mind to be more creative in how you interpret what you see.

It has also made it easier to relate to other people, even when I meet someone who plays the kind of games that I don't play myself, we can at least relate to each other in some way. I find that most people my age play some kind of computer or video game, whether if it's by themselves or together with their child. It adds to the conversation.

Pretty much got my first job in IT support from the knowledge I built up from PC gaming in the early days of DOS and Windows 95.

Even I can succumb to drowsiness and its side effects at 1am. I'll leave the mistake, someone might get a laugh out of it.

But at least you'll never see me writing "could of" instead of "could've", or worse, writing "defiantly" instead of "definitely". Which still puts me ahead of far too many people, unfortunately.

I'm probably working in IT because of gaming, which led me to be curious with working with computers.

Also helped me love music, my enjoyment of games music is most likely what led me to expand my taste to other genre.

Improving my English and reading comprehension is another one (even though it's still not great, but it could be a lot worse).

Mostly it's because I don't have a life.

You should see my "coin behind the ear" trick, then you'll be impressed.

Don't you feel like often non-native speakers can be more proficient with a language than the native speakers? We always worry whether or not we're right and always check to make sure, native speakers just wing it and trust they got it right.

I do wonder how my portuguese is doing in that sense, it feels like forever since I've written anything.

I don't know if it's a general phenomenon but I'm surprised by how many native English speakers on the net confuse basic things like there/their/they're, its/it's, have/of etc.

Probably something related to the quality of things folks read nowadays.
Some say a lot of us don't read anymore but that's a blatant lie: we do read... presumably, the issue lies within WHAT we read or how, dunno. ;P

Gaming has encouraged me to spend less time reading, exercising, and getting out of the house.
