morolf: I wonder what happens after the end of the battle of Aleppo. But in any case, Assad's regime seems to be secure now, interesting development.

rtcvb32: Assad has said he will step down when it is time. Let's assume he leaves 3 years after ISIS is fully removed, that would be enough time to get the city (and country?) stable, get protections and everything in order before leaving.

I watched an interview something like a month ago and he put out some really good points and explanations for what was going on. Will he keep his promise? Don't know, but if he steps down or is removed before ISIS is removed, then likely chaos and more issues will crop up.
Well. I have some difficulty believing that Assad will ever step down voluntarily (he must be afraid of ending up in The Hague) or that he is serious about democratization...but who knows?
The fundamental issue seems to be that Syria is fractured by ethno-religious divisions (though not totally, there are quite a lot of Sunnis on Assad's side apparently as well) which can only have become more bitter through the experience of civil war...I'm not sure there really is a good solution for a country like Syria. The fear of minorities that only the dictatorship prevents them from being at the mercy of an illiberal Sunni majority doesn't seem totally unreasonable to me.

Petrell: Well Wife Carrying World Championship competition is held here in Finland and I'm pretty sure very few outside Finland knows about it so... ;-p
Thats seriously awesome! Thanks for sharing!!

morolf: Obama didn't bomb the shit out of Syria.
I believe it's called a proxy war. A war we are funding but not actually fighting using American soldiers. Whether it was US planes or US government giving money/arms/support, the result was the same.

i don't give a fck if it's assad or the terrorists - they ALL arabs, they ALL the same for me. how can they be sane if they kill their own country? it's like a fight between football fans just because one sympathizes with a team or another - it's crazy. i think they should continue to kill each other if that's what they really want
I always click on this thread because the question is "How do I stop the war in Syria" and the problem is showing up as SOLVED in soothing green letters.

But one click, one look, and I'm more depressed than before.

Why, because there are so many "extremists" posting here?
I mean, you can't seriously have expected that people in a gaming forum come up with a solution for Syria's civil war...

I'm sorry, I created this thread during a mental breakdown when I want to solve the world's problems RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW, but this war is too complex for that. I'm putting that wrong. I'm not the one who can solve the world's problems I mean and I won't find the answer here, because the answer can't be found anywhere how I can save the world as I can't. That's why I picked that answer.

The proper solution would be this post:

Titanium: Make a peace plan all sides can agree to and convince them to agree to it.

DubConqueror:
Hmmm... As much as a 'peace' plan might be a good idea, it's not going to work well with Islamists and Islam in general. Their version of peace is Shariah Law and preferred weapon is out-breeding you. Once they are the majority they will just rise up and take over.

Look up what "Kafir" means, especially its meaning in Ottoman Empire :)

morolf: Obama didn't bomb the shit out of Syria. I don't like the man, but he was relatively restrained in his actions towards Syria...he still caused a lot of damage by allowing covert support for rebel groups, but at least he stopped short of open intervention and regime change which Clinton would probably have done.
Course he did. That's why all those Syrians put on their running shoes and jogged to Germany. Al-Bin Mohammad Salam Dingi Dang Doodie now goes by the name Al-bin Von Frankenstein and runs a small tavern in Wolfenbüttell.

catpower1980: Slightly bumping this "related" thread as if you're interested in medias in general, today is THE day to take note of how the finale of Aleppo battle is covered in the press(and on social medias). Going from "It's liberation!" to "It's a massacre!", there's a whole spectrum of opinions and inherent bias that you can grasp just by reading various headlines. It will be interesting to dig that out some years later as right now, you have a good snapshot of the various media positions on the conflict (and to see if they'll change their mind later or not).

morolf: Probably it's both, I have no doubt that Assad's troops are committing acts that could be described as war crimes. Still, given that the opposition has been dominated by hardline Islamists for years, I have to regard Assad's regime as the lesser evil.

It made me think about what it would have been like if Internet existed when the Soviets and Allied took over Berlin. Maybe we would have probably heard German citizens telling us on Twitter about bombings, children killed and raping soldiers.

Anyway, yesterday a short documentary (with English subtitles when needed) from a French patriot came out about Syrian women in Damascus. Interesting to watch as it's the kind of stuff which won't get broadcasted in Western mainstream medias:

i honestly don't know if armenians can be labeled as arabs because i never cared to find out (and i still don't). my father is armenian, mother romanian - but i'm like neither of them. i'm different, i'm original

You're unique, and thank god for that.
