Click Control Panel, click "Uninstall". Click "Steam", follow all forward arrows. You can thank me now.

I did what you told me but now it says "Your Steam client was just uninstalled. Press [NEXT] to celebrate!"...

That dosn't work by disabling the start-up option in the client, I tried, I have CCleaner installed, and it was enabled to startup, so I disbaled it from CCleaner.

you can disable it from Msconfig

Click on Run

type/paste Msconfig

check Services tab and startup tab

untick both galaxy services [you can always enable them again] also from the startup tab

also type/paste in services.msc

and set both galaxy services to 'manual' [if set to auto] right click service -> properties -> select manual from the dropdown combo box] -> click apply

It worked for me.


On a side note, why did they default to having the client startup when Windows is booted? I fucking hate when programs do that. I want applications to start when I tell them to, not because the OS booted.

And more annoyingly, why did they have it open when set to start on boot, rather than just minimised on the System Tray like any normal program that starts on boot...

But having said that, turning it off in the settings worked for me.

It may stay as an entry in msconfig after disabling it within Galaxy, but it should not be active. Simply changing the option in Galaxy has worked for me since the alpha.

Well I used that option to turn off the client, but in the startup list of CCleaner and Mscong [it was enabled still]

Anyway OP just wants to turn it off, if your option works then all is good.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but my Galaxy on Windows 10 launches at start-up no matter what I do. I've disabled the option in the application and in MSConfig, yet the damn thing keeps coming back.

It also has a weird interface fault where if I go full screen on my main monitor, whenever I click on the Galazy window, it brings Firefox to the front. Doesn't launch a link or anything, just can't be clicked on. I've found the way around it is to move the Galaxy window using the Windows and cursor keys, but it's still a bit of a pain.

Windows 10 now automatically re-opens all running programs at startup.

There is no way to turn off this default behavior. You have to quit Galaxy before you reboot, or use a nonstandard shutdown/reboot.

The command line shutdown /r /t 0 /f will do a clean reboot.

Use shutdown /s /t 0 /f for a shutdown. I put these in .bat files and stuck 'em in my start menu.

The window moving problem, I can't help with.

Isn't there an option in Windows 10 so that shutdown and reboot are made complete ("clean" as you say), without having to use the command-line commands? I haven't used Win10 for awhile but I recall changing the shutdown behavior like that, same as in Windows 8.1. Or has this been taken away in some recent Windows 10 update?

No, that's not it. This has nothing to do with Fast Start. That, you can still turn off.

Windows 10, starting with the Fall Creator's Update, saves a list of the programs running at shutdown and re-launches them when you boot the machine.

It's 'working as designed' to 'create a seamless experience so that when you are forced to reboot, you can pick up working right where you left off'.
