nightcraw1er.488: Well, that only had one moving part from memory, and a stick which moved up and down, so less likely to break. Anyways, time travel is totally and utterly impossible, I know I came back and clarified that with myself.
I dunno about that as it takes time to walk a mile so time travel is a fact.

I prefer creating my own personal time travel area by decorating everything in a nostalgic manner, never ever entrust your life to a capricious device... and I wouldn't want to encounter any time travel paradox, 12 Monkeys blew my mind once, I don't need to experience that first hand^^

As for win 98, I'll look if I can find my old desktop PC anywhere in the cellar then I don't need to fiddle around with forces I can't master x( .
But thanks to all who tried to help me with that.

Still, I hope GOG gets Drakan and Wizards and Warriors one time, would be awesome.^^

Nope, time remains constant, you move through space. The fact of your movement doesn't alter time - which would continue on if you didn't walk and in fact continues on regardless of what you do.

No, because that four or five minutes would have happened regardless of you running a mile. All you have done is alter your position with 3 dimensional space during that time. If you didn't run, then your position in 3 dimensional space would not have changed, but those minutes would have still passed. To clarify, you have changed the where, not the when. Now if you could run a mile, and be at the same time as when you left then you would have travelled through time.

You're both incorrect. Time DOES NOT EXIST at all rather it is a measure that was totally made up to fit into equations. In fact, time should NOT BE NEEDED AT ALL in a unified theory of everything.

It is amazing how many Windows games, that do not work in modern(-ish) Windows versions, work just fine in Wine on a *nix operating system. Also, a mere 1GB of RAM is painfully little for Windows Vista, the most RAM hungry Windows version ever (so far). My point: Just install some lightweight Linux version on that laptop and then intall Wine unless it already came bundled with that distro.

Zeeaire: I have an 8 year old Dell Vostro 1000, with I guess 1 MB RAM.
Well, I also think Vista is a very cheesy operating system, but I got the laptop from my mother and back than, we didn't think much about which operating system would be the best.
On my main PC I have XP, fewer compatability problems.
Since I don't play any newer games it is my first choice.
Dell provides drivers for this model for 2 OS's : XP and VISTA 32bits. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/vostro-1000/drivers

You can assume themain Linux distributions will work as well , although wifi might be an issue . If you can get hold og an XP licence, your safest bet is to backup your system, dowload all the drivers you need, then reformat your HD, then install a clean XP , then install your drivers.

Also, 7 is imho not a option. 1 GB ram, a weak Athlon X2 CPU and 80 GB of HDD make it difficult to avise a modern OS.

You can dualboot Vista with Linux.

Install PlayOnLinux on Linux, and pull the Wine Staging. Enjoy your games.

For Dosbox, there is a good DBGL (DosBox Game Launcher) which also works in Windows.

If you do not want to run Bare metal, you can install Linux in a virtual machine (with PlayOnLinux) and then provide VGA Passthrough (direct hardware access), so that it runs at near bare metal speed.


Linux support is better than Windows 98, because you will have real issue with drivers; and Wine in Linux supports nearly everything from Windows 98 API-wise.

Thanks for your Linux advice, I never thought about getting Linux before, but I didn't know wine is compatible with older games? If that is the case, than it would be far better than only rely on the crappy Vista of course.
And it would be better to change to XP indeed, also because my Vista is very run down, in the past I didn't think so much about safe surfing and I have a lot of trash on that laptop.
And of course because Vista slows down everything.
So I would tend to dualboot with a newly set up XP.
But in the moment I can't think of anything like that anymore because I just got bad news. But that is off-topic.
