I can't find any info about it on dosbox's site

Just start Dosbox from your operating system's terminal.

If you installed it, you just need to run DOSbox.exe it is in the DOSbox folder.
And probably it has icon on your desktop too.

Does it save the info I type into there or do I need to direct traffic through IPX every time I wanna play?

I think it doesnt, but the.conf file does.
