I was hanging about the old Witcher forums when it was announced that gog.com was going to be starting up, so I wandered over here and signed up. I believe my first purchase (too lazy to check) was Freespace 2.
I was buying a used copy of MDK2 for PS2 in a GameStop. I commented to the guy behind the counter that I never got it to run on my PC back in the day, so I'd try the console version, and lamented the fact that the "golden oldies" weren't for sale for PC anywhere anymore. He then proceeded to tell me about GOG.com, and the fact that they sold both MDK1 and 2 for PC with compatibility fixes. I checked it out as soon as I got home, but unfortunately they were still in closed beta at the time, so I couldn't create an account right away. So I signed up with my email address, and happily joined about a week later when I got an email saying they were now going into open beta.
I read about it in a Spanish speaking forum called Clan Dlan. And it seems that my first purchase was Carmageddon: Max Pack.
My old Total Annihilation discs got lost and after scouring around for a bit, I heard a place called "GOG" was the best place to get a new copy, albeit digital, these days.

So I went over and made an account. First purchase of course was total annihilation. But it's grown to be quite a list by now :p

And I found my discs again a while later, but since the GOG release is much more convenient I just use them to play the OST in the living room nowadays :)
Well, Steam and its client became boring for me. So I decided to try another digital distributor.
I discovered it in a French videogame magazine called "IG Mag" which was my favourite VG magazine ever.

In the June - July edition of 2013, there was an article about Chris Avellone with a special paragraph dedicated to Planescape Torment. It said we could buy it on GOG.

I looked online for info about the website and the game and I decided to create an account to buy it.

Along with Arcanum, which I bought when I knew it was made by Troika (Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines), PT was my first purchase.

I then bought a lot of games and I don't regret it. This website has an excellent policy, catalog of games and community.

Rest in Peace IG Mag
I followed a white rabbit down a hole.

Unfortunately, shortly after I got there, the Queen of Hearts started creating bogus accounts and chasing all my friends away.

Me and my brother liked The Witcher game a lot, The Witcher 2 as well. Then as far as I remember, we looked into CD Project Red and through them we found the association with GOG.com

Since then we were like "OH mY BlooDy beavers! GOG IS AMAZING!"
I wanted to buy Fallout and Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics somewhere, and that led me to GOG. Guess which games I bought on my first purchase!
Googled 'dungeonkeeper buy'
I was looking for good mac games... Also I did not want to make a steam account (I did not really know what steam was... but it was the first time I tried to search for a digital games store (because my macbook is my first "gaming" machine)) but I knew one thing: "why install steam when I always just install the game?" (and I still prefere to just install the game... I only install steam when I have to play a steam-only gift).

I did find The Witcher 2 here but the price was too high for me.
My first games were Amnesia and King's Bounty the Legend... before regional price (4.99 dollars).
After that I bought the witcher 2 (4.99 dollars).

After that I bought Guilty Gear X2 #Reload (5.99 dollars) and I got the Witcher 1 for free...
After that my gaming experience started with The Witcher 1 that I ended to love more than the Witcher 2.

Before gog my only pc gaming experience was:
Aladdin 1994, Super Mario Bros, Maui Mallard, Need for Speed Most Wanted 2006 and Carbon, Tomb Raider Anniversary, Asterix&Obelix XXL2, Far Cry 1 and Grand Fantasia (MMORPG).
(maybe I forgot 2 or 3 games but that pretty much all).
+ some game boy/gba/nintendo ds games:
pokemon, final fantasy III, bleach and yu-gi-oh.

Now I played lots of games, I also got few gift on steam and origin.
My list of games to play is still long, but I will finish it, and after that I will make a really good game.

Those were dark days for ol' Stevedog, three decades off PC gaming had suddenly crashed into the big brick wall of online only DRM. Copy protection schemes like code wheels or "What is the 3rd word of the first paragraph on page 12 of the manual" style challenge questions were annoying, but there were some easy ways of dealing with them. The new form that required being logged into an online account to play your games was just too much for my tastes. I had first encountered Steam when I purchased Half-Life 2, at the time I was living in an older house and the wiring did not support robust internet connectivity. After researching a bit more I decided that this new fangled "Steam" thing was not worth the effort if all I wanted to do was play Half-Life. My journies journies with Gordon Freeman were over.

As the years passed I found more and more of my favorite game series were going Steam only and my choices in PC games were dwindiling. Fast forward to the release of Fallout New Vegas, the title that promised to wash the bad taste of Fallout 3 away by going back to the roots of the franchise, which as a diehard Fallout fan made me squeal with glee. When the game was released as Steam only I was devastated. Was it time for me to finally give in and accept Steam as the only way I'd ever game again? I had one last option, I googled Steam Alternatives and the first thing to pop up was GOG.com.

I downloaded Tyrian first so I could test out just how DRM free it really was. The first purchase I made was Oddworld Abe's Oddesy because it was a game I already owned so if it turned out horrible I hadn't really lost anything. Having passed all my initial tests GOG became my goto place for PC games.

amrit9037: Blame Torchlight.
One fateful day, while I was browsing the internet casually, a FREE GAME ALERT filled the internet (Or was it Steam?). TORCHLIGHT FOR FREE BOYS. I jumped onto GOG.com and added the game in and whatnot. Add to it that I've also got at least another game for free (The Witcher 2), and a series (Fallout Classics).

Eventually I learnt GOG's selling point. And ever since my issues with DRM rose up, I only looked at GOG.com...and Humble Bundle, but you see, GOG has a lot that sets them apart from everything else. And that's why I'm here.
I think it was mentioned in CD Projekt newsletter I was subscribed back in the days. It was czech division of CD Projekt game distribution. They are defumct for quite a long time now.
It was mentioned there before it even launched and I checked it out and left.
I only registered several months later, when I was looking for Earth 2150 and stumbled back in here.
I were looking for The Witcher patches, to play the game again.
Found gog, registered my copy and grabbed Beneath a Steel Sky, Torchlight and TeenAgent for free.
And I find it quite nice place to waste my time when I am less busy with my other surreal life.
