I DLed emergence a few days ago and tried running it. Every time I hit the final splash screen in the intro it crashes to desktop. I tried using compatibility mode, making an exception in trendmicro, no luck. Can I get some help?

Are you using the launcher not just clicking on the game?
I bought it too a few days ago and have had nothing but crashes at the 3dFX Logo. I've done everything I could, but nothing works. The only thing to do now is to get a full refund until GOG gets this fixed.

To quote Thiev from the Release thread: "if you have problem with 3dfx on start, try switching nGlide options to 'resolution by app'".

Does this help?
No, it doesn't. As I said before, I tried everything I could and it still crashes.

Please understand, someone can easily say "I tried everything I could" and yet haven't tried any of a number of things someone else might think of. It is not actually a description of the things you have tried to anyone but you.
Tried Compatibility Mode: FAILED
Tried Settings in nGlide: FAILED
Tried disabling nVidia Share Mode: FAILED
Tried various Command Line Options: FAILED
Tried running in Windows 10's CMD Window: FAILED
Tried downloading DOSBox 0.74 and running the game through it: FAILED
Tried letting Windows 10 Compatibility Troubleshooter fix it: FAILED
Tried uninstall/reinstall: FAILED
Tried Safe Mode/Clean Boot: FAILED
Tried disabling various options in nVidia Control Panel: FAILED
Been working on this for 2 hours and constant crashing at 3dFX Logo: SUCCESS!!!

What more can I do? All of my drivers are the latest.

It doesn't run on any other renderer (soft, d3d)? Have you downloaded latest version of the game - I see they've already updated installer with hotfix.
Tried it and it failed. And yes, I have the Hotfix already.
Have you tried the registry changes suggested in this post?
Well, at least you won't have to chase it!
Thanks to LexRust from Tech Support, I got this to work. If anyone is having the same problem, search for this link on the forums and it will work: gog.com/forum/homeworld_remastered_collection/emergence_will_not_run

^This...
Seriously no dice here? 1.01 hotfix didn't address? I want to exhaust every option before requesting refund and the GoG tech support only knows the canned "get latest drivers, reinstall" crap. Bummmmp

This thread was about an edit to reg_keys for the OpenGL line, and didnt work on my end, identical to the Furious1964 post.

I think I finally have a fix. I also tried everything Furious1964 tried to no avail, but since the problem appears to lie with the 3DFX renderer, which in our case is the nGlide distribution that comes with GOG's version of the game, (Nglide is the Renderer that allows 3DFX to run on modern hardware) I downloaded and installed the original nGlide distribution and now the game runs perfectly!

Here's exactly what to do:
Go to: http://www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide
Download nGlide.
Run the installer and click Install.
After a few seconds it should say "Completed. You can now play your 3Dfx Glide games."
And that's it! Cataclysm should run fine for you, as it did me.

If you have any questions about the validity of the Zeus Software link don't worry, I got it directly from the Catalysm files.
If you want to verify it for yourself, you can find the file in your own directory here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Homeworld Emergence/nglide_readme

The link can be found under: 5. Compatibility List.

When I run the game, it instantly minimizes after the 3DFX logo.
I run as admin: same thing.
I install nGlide 2.00: no change.
I copy C:\Windows\SysWOW64\glide*.dll to Homeworld dir, overwriting the old files.
I get a menu now, but no mouse and buttons are weird (one in the bottom left corner, too where there should not be one).
I copy c:\Windows\SysWOW64\opengl32.dll to Homeworld\3Dfx\WinNT\opengl32.dll
Now I have both menu and mouse, but I can't change grapics options to 1600x1200 (well, I can, but they don't stick).
I go in regedit to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Sierra On-Line\Cataclysm and I change:
screenDepth to 32bit
screenHeight to 1200
screenWidth to 1600
Now it runs.
GOG usually gets these old games right; not sure why this one would not work right away...

Not sure which step was the actual fix, but after doing all these, the game runs.
I wish there was 1920x1200, too (there iis but then the aspect ratio is off).
