omega64: You could? Fuck!
I can't post fuck in caps? O_o

Tauto: And I thought you were a nice duck.
You don't know how long I spent getting through the harder minigames. :P
avatar
omega64: You could?

227: Yeah, you have to put a point into the sabotage tree and then you can use the EMPs to circumvent the minigames. Maybe "all" was the wrong word since you can't ever carry enough of them to use on absolutely everything you see that causes a minigame (as memory serves), but I remember at least never having to put up with the abysmal hacking one again after the tutorial. The others are easy enough that I never bothered wasting an EMP on them.

Still, makes for a much smoother experience.
The hacking gets crazy near the end.

Ugh, I can't even begin to imagine. I can barely get past the mandatory hacking minigame in the tutorial.

SIde note: I thought your avatar was a fish with a mustache. It's a duck? My whole life is a lie.

Konrad: Ooh, that'd be sweet. I actually got the game Day-1, and so what if it was rough and buggy. I beat the thing once on a stealthy, subtle playthrough — and then immediately a second time just blowing shit up. It was great both times, and the differences were pretty significant from what I remember.
Yea, I got it on day-1 too, and while the story and the "ways" you could play were great, the graphics and bugs were terrible and the AI (while you'r sneaking) was insult. :P

But it was great experiance, when everything worked... and with curret patches it's fine.

I had a lot of fun playing Alpha Protocol, bought it on CD a couple of years ago. It's DRM-free now, with patch 1.1 so that's pretty cool. Didn't experience any bugs, ran like a dream and was really funny. It's definitely not a flawless game, it's kinda console-y, but it's better than the sum of its parts.

8/10 worth playing and a steal for the 4 Euros I paid for it.

cogadh: Meh, AP was okay. Not good, not great, just okay. Frankly, it got so boring that I never actually finished it, despite starting it multiple times.
avatar
RadonGOG: Well, how far did you got? AP is a perfect example how to build up tension up to the final chapter, but in return it´s not that brilliant in the first chapter.
I honestly don't remember, that's how "meh" the game was for me. I know I made it through at least the Saudi Arabia part of the game, but beyond that, I really can't remember. What I do remember is being incredibly frustrated by many parts of the game, especially the stupid hacking and lock picking, and bored to death by the rest of it. It wasn't even a case of rage quitting or anything like that, one day I just decided to play something else and never went back to it.

thewitcherpotion: I'm kinda let down that in this "fig.co' advisory board several ppl that worked on awesome games like Brian Fargo and Feargus Urquhart that piece of turd Tim Shaffer is with them listed. I distrust most of the projects they shill because of that.

Same process, but different output here :
Bought it day one, loved the first go, didn't found ANY bug (but the weird IA). Started a second playthrough just after ending the first (thing I barely did in my entire life with any game) , and ...

was disappointed to see so little change in the story (I expected much more divergence, but maybe I didn't dug deep enough, or missed things)

[edit] But I d love to see it here. And those sales numbers are really surprising given the amount of noise this game made. Everybody heard of it at the time and had an opinion.

Yeah, but from what I recall most opinions of the game at that time were poor.

Oh yes, and I bet they still are. I don't diminish the bugs people had (while I didn't have any), I am just surprised that so few sales made that game so famous : the echo chamber effect had to be exceptional (but yes, I suppose a high profile game with bad first impressions had to get pirates attention, doubling up the echo)

I often wonder how bad they really were. Because Obsidian has a reputation for releasing buggy games, I sometimes think the severity of the bugs in their releases is overstated.
