the dude is actually really deaf.
Speaking of Chali 2na collabos: Marcelo D2 & Chali 2na - That's What I Got (sadly it needs unblocking in Germany)

Bavarian: A shame this only has 1.5k views while rap is so big in France.

Cambrey: Because it's not very good, to say the least.

Overused themes + 5th grade lyrics + Bontempi samples = 1k5 views.
Yeah, there are definitely a lot better songs out there, I just chose it because it fit the occasion. But now that you've called it out, I challenge you to post a better track here. ;)

And in the meantime, here's a small compensation on my part.

Here are a couple tracks: Orelsan: suicide social and Disiz: Mon amour. In my opinion, they outline the layers of our societies in a much smarter way, rather than just putting fuck fuck fuck in every sentence.

Alright, since we now seem to have a few experts on French Rap here it might be a good occasion to ask something that has casually been on my mind for some time now. I'm looking for the name of a crew, especially one of their albums.

In the late 90s I had this tape with one of their albums on it. Can't even remember where I got it from. The sound was like your typical 90s French Rap. I would describe it as melodic, melancholic, symphonic, similar to IAM, La Cliqua, partly La Brigade etc. Once I read a review about that album, and it was rather low rated. The author criticized the radio-friendliness of the sound, and the shallowness of the lyrics. Still I liked it a lot. If my memory isn't playing tricks on me the name of that crew consisted of three letters which I think were an acronym for something. It's not NTM, not IAM, and certainly not TLF.

I really tried to google it several times, but couldn't get any helpful results. Can anyone help me out with that?

Hm, not much to go on, considering your memory might deceive you and/or that reviewer might have been a jerk. ;) So let's get a few names out of the way first. I assume it was none of these: Sléo, Soon E Mc, Mellowman, Ménélik, Alliance Etnik, Sens Unik, KDD?

No, none of the mentioned.

Another thing I believe to remember, but also can't guarantee, is that the cover of the LP was mostly in blue or shades of blue. The review was in one of the first issues of JUICE magazine in the late 90s, so I assume it was written by Fred Hanak, JUICE's inhouse French Rap expert since day one.

edit: I'm almost sure about one thing, though: It was a French act, not from Switzerland or Belgium.

How about ATK?
does this count as hiphop / rap?

...old news, but i still find it brilliant :)
I'm loving Celph Titled at the moment. Definitely NOT mainstream and NOT censored!

Doesn't ring a bell.

I hoped somebody would instantly know what I mean from my description. A guessing game is going to lead us nowhere. I'm probably wrong about the three letter thing. Could've been three words, or just a 3 in it. Or something completely different. :D

My best bet is to search my dad's attic next time I visit him, and see if can find the old JUICE issue with the mentioned review in it, or if I'm lucky even the tape itself. I'll let you know. Thank you both for your efforts anyway!
