Some of the most childish content I know of is "adult content".
I wonder if they are ever going to make a tag or filter for all those niche games I love. That "Dexter" serial-killer simulator is da bomb, man! You get to hunt, capture, torture, dismember and dispose of your victims all the while eluding your own detection or capture. It's an excellent and immersive first-person sandbox RPG running on unreal 5 with Ray tracing. Every room and every building is explorable, and the graphics, man....the graphics. Huh? Oh, that doesn't exist yet does it? Hmmm....pass that game idea along to someone for me then. lol As for all the wanky spanky games here, I don't pay them much mind. As the one user states, there is lots of blood, gore, and violence. I've never outright seen any boobies on display at the store though. I agree, there should be filters, tags, or whatever for people to tailor to their discriminating tastes. Lord knows that I don't want any boobies interfering with my Super Noah's Ark 3d (greatest game ever) wholesome playthroughs. The Lord did say smite thy enemies. jus sayin' lol

TheGrimLord: This is bait. Grand Theft Auto and The Witcher 3 say hi, as well as Mass Effect and numerous other titles.
avatar
Jorev: I'm not sure what you mean by bait, perhaps you can explain that.
My point is valid. Everyone can name games that were highly successful that they like and don't have any sex or sexuality.
Are you saying Witcher 3 would be significantly less popular if it didn't have any sex or sexuality?
I don't think so.
If you removed the violence it would suffer.
Sure, I'll explain. So, a bait post is something intended to cause drama because it states an opinion that usually draws ire with many people. Some of these are so outlandish people get the memo and call it bait. Let me give you some examples:

"All people who watch horror movies worship the devil!"

"Anyone who watches anime is a pedophile."

"There are no women on the internet who are actual gamers."

All of these opinions are outlandish, like your "all quality games do not have adult content" statement, which is false. And my rebuttal to your other statement is simple. Maybe removing the sexual content from the Witcher 3 wouldn't take anything away from it, but there have been sexual and relationship elements in games for years and this should be very normal as we've been doing two things since the dawn of time: having sex and killing each other. They're almost mutually exclusive. Sure, maybe the stuff doesn't need to be on the front banner because this isn't Jast USA, but to deny players of something that is an integral part of the human experience like the ability to have sex and relationships with their chosen character sounds like a no-brainer. As games become more immersive and interactive, this will only continue to be the case. There comes a point in a hobby when you don't like where the hobby is going and it may be time to drop that hobby and pursue another one. Maybe that's where you are right now. Because from the way I see it, games will only continue to add more sex and gender elements as the years go on.

richlind33: Because sex sells product.

Isn't it great to live in a world where nothing is sacred, nothing is special? Where porn is how children learn about sexuality?
It's not just sex though, is it. You don't see computer magazines showing a man with his giant package bursting out from his trousers on the cover. Or games featuring mens packages bursting out.

These disgusting porn games are designed to please little boys, at the expense of the woman. It is the woman that is degraded. The woman that gets paraded around like objests. The woman whose private parts are cheapened and exploited.

The man is not treated like that. The man is treated with respect. It's about time we stopped getting treated as objects. I fully support banning the porn games.

Ummmm....where have you been living all these years? Ever heard of Harlequin romance novels? Fabio? Men's junk has been prominently featured in media to sell media for decades(Actually since day 1). lol Men's underwear ads having big bananas down there? Yup those exist too. Shoe commercials, workout equipment, sports supplements, etc. Ever looked at a super hero's crotch such as in the Joel Schumacher Batman? Huge, Huge groin and nipples! lol But you know....those poor exploited women though. Poor all of them. I feel for them. lol We know women certainly have never watched anything questionable. lol And certainly there is no female market for any games, videos, toys, novels, etc. lol

I said the best games don't have sex or sexuality not all quality games. Way to take me out of context.
And the only posts that cause drama are the ones that people react to irrationally.

Oh, the good old cry about people oppressing fictional characters is back in the thread. There is also enough "objectification" of men in various media, but for some reason we do not complain about it. Maybe it's because we have enough brains to separate reality and fiction?)

Should games where you can hit women be banned? What about killing? Or is it just sex that is banned?

And what about women who play porn games? Are they traitors and disgusting too?

No one ever expects that. A game ad which shows a dressed woman (other than in certain fantsy games, let's just say "bikini armor") does not teach about sex.
Not even the store pages show anything and that's already hidden by a disclaimer.

Sorry, but that's complete [edit: removed]. Men are treated as objects just the same.
The only difference is who's willing to pay, that something with a woman on the cover sells better than something with a man on the cover.

I can't say much about the adult manga VNs on GOG, I don't play these. But I can tell you, that in most other stories the guy is just there ... to be there.
These games on GOG have not much in common with the old style porn games. What we get here, are stories with some lewd content. And even for that kind of "game" (VNs are hardly games, they are in the best case interactive stories) they are quite harmless. Try to get your hands on some games from Illusion, that gives you a whole new perspective. Regarding those I would agree on some points.

But here's another question: Why don't you treat killing and gutting people in games that way? Are you happy with a world where children learn about killing in movies and games? What about mistreating animals? "Take that, you turtle, now give me the coin!". Are they learning about thieverie by playing Adventure games? About driving by playing racing games?

If we start to ban games with sexual content, we also have to ban violent content, which probably make two thirds of all the games.

Games get a rating, which is perfectly ok. Some are ok for children, some are not.
And those which are not, have a warning when you go to their webpage.
If your kids don't respect you enough to ignore that warning, then they get their hands on violent and sexual content without your approval.
It would not change a thing if only one of the two was banned, they still would access the other.

Exactly. Let's leave only the games of the Hidden Object and Match 3 genres and the world will become beautiful like never before

It appears you don't have much experience here and a few things you said were wrong. First of all, you are forgetting the entire Yaoi and BL genre. Go to Jast's page right now. You see that? Drammatical Murder is #3 and this is a BL or Boy's Love title. Men get MORE than objectified in this genre. Jast just hasn't fired their big guns yet. Maybe I need to chat with Blood about that.

Also, no sir we have far worse in terms of content than Illusion. GOG sells Dead End Aegis and this is a hardcore VN. Trust me, things get rough. It's no Starless, but it's far from squeaky clean. And Evenicle (which is a gameplay novel, not just a story) also has some rough scenes as well as both VenusBlood titles (which is an SRPG with visual novel elements.)

But if you guys want some BL so we can finally see men get objectified and people will be happy, maybe I can make that happen. It is high time GOG embraces BL, especially since it does really well in this genre and the majority of the audience for it is women.

As I said, I am not interested in the hentai manga and anime stuff. So if you say I am wrong, please talk about other adult genres.
And as men getting objectified, that was not restricted to adult games, as the original statement about women was not restricted to adult games.
Btw, we might have different views of what "good" and "bad" mean. I am mostly talking about the storytelling aspect which in the illusion games wasn't really there. Tbh I don't really care about the explicit scenes, I am more interested in the story that surround them. That' why I stick to 'adult' games and don't necessarily play 'porn' games/stories (even if that's often part of them).

Can anyone respond to https://www.gog.com/forum/general/hide_porngames_from_the_store/post57 ? That's an answer to your question, it's directly above one of your other posts but no-one seems to have a reply to it.
(Hint: You can also just remove the quote. Also the 'new post' button on top of the site creates a answer without quote)

As I recall a study showed that in the US the rape rate was highest in the countries with the most restrivtive laws.
When it comes to games, I am against that in any way. Luckily in most (non manga, non anime, I don't know shit about them, ok?) that doesn't happen, and in even fewer the player character is involved. Such games/VNs lose their development funding, since paypal & co. don't want to get connected to that and therefore their partners have play by the rules as well.
