something very fishy is happening on a thread;

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/smut_and_censorship/

every single comment/user is low rated. the ENTIRE thread is bot crapped on. trust me, this is not normal. hundreds of users and posts, ALL low rated. i have no doubt a user with many alts or whatever, is doing this. i actually don't care at all about the gog forums rep, a pukefest of social garbage you seem to like and embrace. but i would like to have the thread cleaned and rep undone/removed JUST TO IRK the scumbag who is doing it.

i know without doubt, one of your "techs" can see the ips used and or accounts and could undo/reverse this insanity. not only that, the account(s) involved should be banned. probably all empty accounts too, almost no doubt. or they all only have the free games.

speaking of, maybe time to implement a steam-like policy whereby new/fresh/game-less accounts can't do certain community things, like gee, i don't know, vote/rate? how about that? (or accounts must have spent $10 in last 6 months to.....) again, i couldn't care less about the puke rate system you seem to have a HARD-ON for and love so much. but in this case, and it is so obvious, someone is doing this and THAT should be stopped and reversed too, to not give them the satisfaction. heck give anyone who posted there +10 rep for good measure to really irk the cretin.

..then again this is gog land we're on so... at least i'm "screaming" (title) about it so you can't claim not to know.

PS: bring more sexy games. yes, i grabbed JC1/2 and agony but they are weak sauce. i want days gone. last two tomb raiders (which interestingly had denuvo removed from steam days ago) and a million AA/AAA ones. well, and JC3 & 4 now too. c'mon i want to buy so much, but i can't. shower me with new releases, especially AA/AAA ones.

PPS: time to increase wallet limit to $1k too. $500 is weak!!! (you know what i mean. ;-) )

1. You don't need many votes for low rated (and that way not many bot accounts).
2. Mods can't track who set reps to a post (maybe the Admin could see after a deep head on dive into the database - for one post at time).
3. Rateing is bound to reporting in this forum. They won't take away the reporting for fresh users.

4. Its going on for years (I will get the same amount of negative rep each single day for example).

Nobody who is around here long enough takes rep or post ratings serious anymore...

ah, excuse me. what i linked to is being bot (or manual user even) rate bombed. it's not the typical some user(s) posts are getting downvoted which is normal. the ENTIRE thread and ALL users/posts are. this is a deliberate act. gog staff should at least be aware in case they do want to act. you replied as i'm some confused noob.

additionally...

i'm continuing to read that thread, slowly whilst doing other things, and i just came across an interesting post;

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/smut_and_censorship/post73

"So you're one of those disingenuous "I don't support censorship... but" people.

You want to know what harms society significantly more than some games that have fun with a natural human process like sex? Puritanical authoritarians who think like you.

You deserve to be downvoted into oblivion for this take."
hmmmm, interestingly that post is not affected. i'm just pointing out what i sees. and he talks about "downvoting into oblivion". unless there is anything else valid posted in this thread, i'm done anyway, but i'll just say: "GOTCHA!!!" no way it isn't that guy and his bot army doing this. his avatar has "You're on thin ice, GOG." as part of it. oh yeah, i peg this guy as some hardcore gog hater. he seems to have it in for gog. i am now (for myself) pretty sure he is doing it. (fyi, i now also think he's doing it to this very thread.)

as for anyone questioning my claim, test it. post anything in that thread, and see your reply (within seconds) get downvoted. feel free to make new ones and see it happen with all, within seconds. ps: of course if the culprit sees this thread (or my posts in that one about this) he may stop doing it. still, as of now it can be tested 100%.

goodbye...

The solution would be for everyone to get "bot" accounts and derep everything would it not?

The solution to this is simple: GOG should entirely remove the entire "Rep" system, which is inherently bogus anyway, and which is often used as a means to intimidate and cyber-bully users.

Wow, somebody out there must really love you to have singled you out like that. It's a little sad.

Thank goodness the rating system in Stack Overflow is a little more solid, otherwise the site would be downright unusable.

The issue with bot accounts is they are free and probably have the same voting power as actual users. Weighing the votes based on purchases might be a better choice. Example if you assume the average user pays oh $200 in games then that becomes the standard for a single vote. Course having more games and paying more making it weighted more won't neccearily mean much. So the value purchased squarerooted once or twice would mitigate that value down where a huge number of games purchased equals very little extra in rep power.

The other option would be to make free accounts to just have no power at all, they did something similar back in 2016 to reduce the amount of spam posts we were getting for months complaining it was an issue, then they sent in a staff who quickly got overwhelmed realizing how bad it was.

Another options would be if they looked at typical threads that are getting bombed and go into the SQL database and look at all the downvoting accounts that apply to every post, and if they have no purchases simply close said accounts (As there's no loss of money)

Other annoyances could be for every 10 downvotes (in an hour?) you are automatically logged out, which would make it annoying for the bot owner to keep having to re-login all the time to sustain it. (I rarely up/down vote anyone, maybe a handful in a day)

"That guy" is a well respected member of the community. And his post is also now low rated. It was probably just originally high rated, so the downvoting took longer for it to become red. It's much more likely that you're the troll doing it, and now trying to sow additional discord among users.*

*No, I don't actually think you are. I'm just trying to show how easy it is to form such accusations, so maybe you'll refrain in the future.

Well, I assure you that making a whole thread devoted to the problem is making that person very happy. You're just feeding the troll. Good job.

There are plenty of threads where you can see that.

Somebody who seems to believe that rep is something to care about and that it is harming me as it would "harm" him.
I don't know how I should feel about such a person.
Somehow I feel sorry for such a view on things...

Don't worry about it. The bots downrepping people have been running rampant for years in this forum. GOG doesn't care and hasn't bothered to fix it. Even though it would be easy to fix.

So just ignore that arbitrary number like the rest of us. It doesn't mean anything and if you don't react to the downrepping it will probably stop. Or not. But what does it matter? At least you're not giving the downreppers the satisfaction of noticing them.

Intimidation and cyber-bullying only work if you're receptive to them. Rep does not really matter and only has any real repercussions if it is negative. Simply ignoring it completely would be a wise decision, since I doubt GOG will ever remove it.

Yeah, me too. Big deal.

I'd venture to guess it means we're compulsive personality types with comfortable revenue streams who don't know when to stop.

30% is financing GOG and look at the direction they're taking right now with that money... you approve? I don't. What have they done lately to improve the experience with their drm-free installers? I'd say they have regressed actually. The community is picking up the slack there where they can, with not much help from GOG.

On the bright side, maybe it helped some of those game devs keep the lights on with the remaining 70%.
