My biggest dream is to work in Europe.
I want to observe the things nobody else sees.

I don't know if I would ever be able to go there or fulfill my dreams.
I want to see how this story ends.
But I am prepared. Already made a plan.
So if you would be going there in next few years and if I managed to get there then maybe we could meet.

Btw if you ever plan to pay a visit to third world then you are always welcome to stay at my place.

I'm a little confused by that 2nd line.

How exactly do you plan to "observe things nobody else sees" working in Europe? :P

The only way you can really do that is by working on another planet, not Europe.

Trust me. I am an engineer.

I studied engineering in college for three years before I realized it had nothing to do with trains.

I think this is code for working the red-light district.

I've done a few third world countries.

I worked for an optometrist in the jungles of the Yucatan. That was exciting. I didn't dare well with my allergies, but it was still very awesome.

I spent a bit of time in Jamaica. The people there were, in general, unfriendly. The setting was pretty, the people not so much. And the poverty was more grotesque. People were less poor than in the jungles, but more desperate. Crime was high and every shop felt shady.

And I've been to some places in the US that are effectively 3rd world countries. Same sort of intense poverty.

I haven't been inactive long time. Everyone has told me that at this point, most impoverished places are too dangerous. Kidnappings, piracy and to very are common. It's unfortunate.

I've been in States that were like 3rd world countries but it sure as hell wasn't because of poverty. :P

Tallima: My wife's biggest dream is to backpack Europe for a month or so in summer. We love to see the things nobody else sees. No Sistine chapel, but the local coffee shop would be fun. And no tour guides, but real people. And maybe see the Sistine chapel too.

We wouldn't be able to go for a few years, and when we do, we'll never be able to afford it. So my wife's dream is crushed. But I told her all about you people and said, "I bet we could stay at goglodytes houses and see the real Europe!"

So if we were to go in a few years, can we stay at your house?
Can you ever be truly sure that some gamer here isn't related to Armin Meiwes? :)

So long as they aren't related to Uwe Boll, I'll manage. :-p

catpower1980: "real Europe" => I didn't know there was such a thing as "fake Europe" :o)
I present to you: Shanghai, where they have a bunch of towns specifically built to resemble parts of Europe.
Thames Town
Pujiang (inspired by Italy)
Nederland/Holland Town
Fengcheng (Spain)
Luodian (Scandinavia/Sweden)
Anting New Town (Germany)

Oh yeah, good find!

It actually reminded me of the Chinese movie "The World" (by Jia Zhangke) which was shot in the "World Park" In Beijing which was built in the early 90's:

(our Manneken Pis is even featured at 1'03'')

Closer to us and much smaller in scale, there's "Mini-Europe" in Brussels (built in 89) which features small models of various European landmarks:

Sorry to get on topic, but you could come stay with me for a few days if you want. I live near Bristol but its also easy to get to places like Bath, the Cotswolds and South Wales depending on what sort of thing you like doing. If you are travelling in term time the kids are away so we have room to spare. We do wash and are fairly normal people!

Let us know some dates in a few years if you are interested.

I'll keep you in mind when we go. My wife has Wales on her list, but not sure where in Wales yet. Hopefully we won't die driving on the wrong side of the road. :)

On that note, my brother-in-law went to a left-side-driving location for his honeymoon and did just that. Well, he didn't die. But his motorcycle did.

Oh, also, we priced tickets. Flying from Boston makes it way cheaper. But those train tickets are very expensive in the UK.

And of course, we'll need a massive amount of time off. I doubt I'll ever get a month off, so we may have to do a two-weeker or something and then go again when we retire.

If we had lots of time, we can get there for a few hundred dollars by riding on a freighter. That would be fun and cool!

Oh, I'm fairly certain I've been there once or twice during the time I lived in Brussels. I'd forgotten about that.
